I gotcha, lol. My son's 27 is 8 3/8, like my 629 was, and like my 629, very, very accurate. They can be a blast to shoot, but I need, want, a bit more practicality.

I want to do some trimming under the trigger guard of my G23, and duty G22. With my grip, about 50rds in, I get a blister on my middle finger. You do any to yours blake, and do you have that issue?

BTW, I thought the triangle checkering on the RFT was pretty aggressive from the factory, lol!! Only thing Glock needs to change is including the extended slide lock with all Glocks,fully support the chamber in the .40s and change the rifling so that lead can be shot. Of course, all that can be changed aftermarket for next to nothing anyway, lol.

I did a little trimming under the G22 trigger guard but it was only to be able to get my hand a little higher in relation to the bore. I get sore thumbs from loading and sore index finger from pulling the trigger. I can't recall ever having any middle finger issues. The RTF2 was rough as first but my hands got used to it and I went with sandpaper grips and after a while, that wasn't enough so I did some texturing. I'll get some pics of the current set up later tonight.

A semi auto pistol can't have a fully supported chamber because the extractor needs to be able to grab the case rim. Most factory barrels are very similar to the glock. Aftermarket barrels do provide more support as you noted. I had an extended slide lock/release lever on mine but whenever I tried to put the gun in the holster with the slide locked back, it would release. I went back to the regular one. I am in the habit of using the whole slide to chamber a round. I used to do the thumb thing with the lever but that isn't a gross motor skill and under stress, I might miss the lever where as I will have less of a chance to miss gripping the whole slide to pull it back. It does stink the glock's polygonal rifling precludes shooting lead but I have done so in limited quantities with no issues. All mine shoot the copper plated stuff with no issues which isn't much more expensive than lead. I just make sure to clean well and periodically check for obstructions.

If you aren't afraid, just take a dremel and a sanding drum and slowing smooth out the area causing you blisters. If that doesn't work, maybe grip a little tighter or looser in that area because blisters are caused by friction.

The problem with Glock .40s is that they didn't support enough of the bottom, by the feed ramp. This can lead to ka-booms, especially if one reloads a little hot. Not too mention, it can, and does, create the Glock bulge in all fired cases, which can be an issue with reloaders. Personally, I'd wish Glock would throw just a little more metal in that area, as well as change the rifling and the gun would be that much better.

As to the slide lock, it's a convenience thing for me. When doing quals, or understress reloads, the rack it method is the only method. However, when plinking with the wife, the slide lock is a nice feature, and on occasion, I use it as well.

The middle finger blister happens no matter how I grip the gun, lol. The triggerguard rubs against it to the point of causing the blister. My Dremel and G23 have a date, lol, it just hasn't happened yet!

K, I'm back... Went to a small gun shop over the weekend. They didn't have any FN's so I'm going to another store this weekend..

What I've found so far: Glock .19, my hands are too soft to hold one of these. The grip is very "prickly", "spikey". I found myself regriupping it all the time to try to find a "comfy spot".

2nd fav was S&W MP9 (I think) - good weight to it, I would like to shoot this one in the range. Trigger was different, safety in trigger, but it was bendable to the touch. Kinda hard to describe.

My pick: H&K UPS (then I saw the price tag $800). Comfy grip, ambedexdrous (sp) safety (I'm a lefty) it belongs to one of the clerk, he will let me shoot it at the range, so I think I will. Says it's got 1/2 the recoil of the S&W, but I haven't fired the S&W yet so I don't know what 1/2 would be. They also recommended the P30 ($1000+).

Thoughts/comments welcome here. Thankx.

Wellll... I was reloading some .40 one day and my QC was out to lunch. I double charged a case. It was supposed to have 4.5 grains and ended up with 9 grains... It didn't overflow like .223 does to tell me I did something wrong... So I am at a range... Pop pop pop ... pop pop BOOOOM. It felt like a firecracker went off in my hand. My mind took a snapshot of the flames shooting out of every possible crack. The slide release lever was never found. The chamber top and ejection side were missing. The part of the slide just in front of where the chamber is was peeled up and the side under the ejection spot was bulged out and the gun was locked in a position of being partially locked back. Needless to say, I had to go buy a new duty glock (ours are personally owned anyway). 9 grains in a .40 will blow any gun up.

I gave the gun to the dept armorer (I truly gave it to him to keep as a conversation piece) and, about 20 minutes later, he brought me back the frame with new internals and a new slide/barrel assembly and said to use that as the reload gun. Since then, my QC is not allowed to take breaks or lunches.

I like using the extended release because it looks cool but the holster issue bugged me too much so I went away from it.

The Glock sounds like a new one, with the RFT type checkering. It it real aggressive, and meant to lock the gun into your palm. blake didn't think it was aggressive enough, lol. Look for a used Glock, 3rd gen is what you are after. Will have finger grooves and tac rail, and mild checkering.

The M&P is on my short list. S&W has copied the Glock trigger safety on at least two other models, as has Springfield/H&K on the xD/2000. It's starting to become more common on polymer duty style pistols. The M&P would be a good choice as it'll include a couple different backstraps, so you can customize the grip to fit your hand a bit better.

The H&K is a good gun, although I don't know about lessened recoil, unless he is referring to the weight of the gun keeping it down. While I won't knock an H&K, I won't buy one either. I'd take the M&P over it.

Ouch!! That's definitely a kaboom!! I'm glad we don;t have to buy our own weapons, however, I wish they would at least upgrade us from our 2nd gens!! Although I'll say the Trijicon nightsights on them still work! And they do shoot! Gotta love a Glock, lol, if the ammo is good, it'll go bang everytime!

Leupold 8-20x illuminated reticle mildot scope, ARMS mounts and rings, HS precision bedded adjustable stock, Magazine conversion, adjustable trigger, Machined chamber and bolt with titanium firing pin, Machined barrel with several matched brakes and flash hiders, adjustable bipod... it shoots better than me


Yes, i know there are two reddots on it .. i switch them out for different sight pictures. i stuck them both on for the pic HA

I got a chance to put about 50 rounds through my new gen 4 glock 22 last week. I would have liked to shoot more, but it started raining.

It is definitely a bit thinner than my old 22c. i tried switching the backstraps around, but haven't decided which one is i am going to go with. The felt recoil is about the same as my old 22c, maybe a bit less with the new recoil spring. The disassembly is the same, but the new spring is definitely a lot trickier to put back into place as there is actually tension on the thing, unlike my gen 3 glock.


The new grip texturing is the cat's ass. there will be no hand slippages on this new one. i tried a magazine with gloves on it and it worked awesome.


More to follow as i get more rounds through it.

Car audio guy, huh? That's a mag extension on that 12 too, lol. Do you use those speedloaders for it? How do they work out?
