We did too! 2 pump max rule!

Hell we even had a dart fight and made shields out of metal trash can lids like we were vikings! I got one stuck in my arm that day. We all got in trouble.

My kid sister had one of those. Great for spinnin' 180's!

Now she does that in a Maryland State Police Crown Vic!

Why don't I remember the Green Machine.

I used to wear down the front wheel on a regular Big Wheel in just a month or two. But I don't remember the green machine.

This is the second or third thread like this and it comes up each time.

They came out in the late 70's. You say you wore out the front wheel on your Big Wheel. Did yours have the side brake?

Hell ya. Lived in Denver at the time, I was 5. We'd get going and hit that brake, turn the wheel and do a skid sideways. We thought we were Evol Kenevol.

The first one I had didn't have the side brake.

Then there was those Evol Kenevol motorcycles that you wind up on the platform and when you stopped winding it would take off.

Interestingly the more safety gear we had on....the more danger...

When you were a kid, you put on a helmet, tell me you weren't doing some stupid fun stuff!!

Times have changed boys....
Haha! Exactly! Good to know I wasn't the only one who was a million times more likely to crack my head on something if I had pads.

I also saw all the stuff about playground equipment earlier in the thread and thought of a playground I used to go to when I was a kid that had all the things ya'll were talking about (sea-saws, metal slides, etc.) and all kinds of other old school stuff. Even had this one sort of odd type of metal swing with a lap bar, back support, and like a lever system that made you go stupid high. I was thinking it was probably still there and checked on google street view. Apparently its gone. Gotta admit I kinda died a little inside. I'm only 20 so I guess it must have been sorta that last of a breed.

I can remember lining up coffee cans or better yet water balloons and shooting at them with a bb gun in my yard. Nobody ever freaked out. An acquaintance of mine, on the other hand, had the police called on him a couple months back when he was cleaning an air soft gun on his porch. WTF! I don't care if its real or airsoft, he can clean a gun wherever he damn well pleases unless it specifies no weapons like a school ground or something.

I had the "1st gen" Big Wheel. No side brake. It didn't take very long to ware out the front wheel. Got it for Christmas around '70.

My sister had one without the side brake too, but after she and I trashed it, she got the "2nd gen" with the side brake. The front wheel lasted alot longer on it, but constantly sliding it sideways into curbs eventually did it in. And then she got the Green Machine. Those things were Wicked!

I had the Evil Knevil stunt cycle too. Compared to TTP, or SSP's, it was lame.

We moved to Oklahoma in 1976 and I lived on a dirt road for years after that. Absolutely no place to ride a big wheel. Or Green Machine. Maybe that's why I don't remember it. I'll turned 40 6 months ago and I still feel young as hell.

We used to buy/make something like this:

out of hangers and put plastic painted model bodies on the chassis. There were weekly drag races with some wild looking rides...even modified to pop wheelies. The mods would keep the brushes on the track....what Xbox?

I still have my G.I. Joe, Mercury Space Capsule. Thats "MERCURY"! Not Gemini, and not Apollo. Those were the big G.I. Joes, with plastic hair, NO beard, and definatly NO Kung-Foo grip.
