It gets the job done as people have said, but there is no reason to recomend it over the ford Taurus.

Parents bought one, Aunt and Uncle have had one, and my boss abuses his daily...().......VERY solid, reliable car. Quality all the way around, and the design (inside and out) isn't bad at all; it's just not very interesting.

Oh well if the 2012 dodge charger comes with a V8 and 8 spd transmission as rumors suggest, then I am sold.
It's ridiculous. I understand that it takes time to develop a world-class car, and I understand that GM didn't have much money in the R&D budget until recently, but a new Impala needs to come sooner than 2014. It's a massive fleet queen now, practically replacing the Crown Vic.

And Commodore is coming, that's for sure, but moving it into the Impala's position in the lineup is pretty much a no-brainer. A base 3.6L SIDI Commodore would easily hit 30 MPG, better than the current FWD Impala. And Holden needs more export markets in addition to the Statesman - Caprice PPV.

I dunno....ideally, I'd much rather see an Impala share some DNA with the big, RWD Caddy flagship they're working on. Talk about world class....but obviously, that would take tons of time. Move the Malibu up-class a little to pull in would-be Impala buyers, and let the Impala truly be a Chevy flagship.

Yet an Alpha CTS-based Impala would be nice, too.

I don't like the idea of relying any more on Holden than necessary...but that's just a little itch I have.

I would never recommend a ford taurus on anybody. Sorry truth, but I wouldn't buy one over an Impala. Nope, not gonna do it.

Impala's just been a huge cluster**** since the 2006 model debuted. First it was supposed to go on Zeta, there were even clay models made, but that was canned. Then it was supposed to go on Alpha, but that was canned. Now we're supposedly on a longer version of LWB Epsilon II.

It's to be expected I guess...It has more heritage behind it than even the Corvette. Yet the current one is...arguably, a success in the marketplace.

There is the RWD perception, too...Even when going into a dealer to look at a Camaro, they'll tell me "That's RWD, you don't want to drive that here in the winters" ()....I can see how they'd doubt a RWD Impala to do well in a market like that.

It really just needs an...End-cycle enhancement. If it really is going to soldier on until 2014, some things need to be tweaked ASAP, like a new front/rear end, new interior bits, whatever. The side profile, IMO, still actually looks fairly decent for its age. It's the front and rear that make it look ancient.

And to put things into perspective...if 2014 actually is the due date for the new Impala, the current model will have been sold alongside THREE generations of Malibu.

Alpha? Where on earth does that misinformation come from?

Oh, and OP, the Impala is a solid roomy car. In the right color (silver) some very attractive features and surface details pop a bit. Big trunk, big back seat, reasonable milage. Just not as exciting as some other choices. And it still sells well even if you take out the fleet sales. And that price seems pretty fair too.

They sell 15,000 a month. How can you say that? Yeah sure many go to fleet but so what.....the platform has long been paid for and the car is the gravy train for GM.

I just don't understand how people can say how great Camaro sales are but shit all over the Impala. Is it a couch on wheels on an old platform? Sure it is but it is making money and lots of it!!! Keep riding that gravy train GM!
