Stay with Lexus or
5 series BMW
M3 and M6 are more on the high performance than luxury scale

Porsche Panamera (luxurious and everything else Porsche stands for in performance)

I hear these guys on the CTS-V, and it's a beautiful car. A good friend of mine went through the same dilemma as your dad, and ended up buying an Audi RS4. Four doors, AWD, small bore V-8 making approx. 420HP. It's also a six-speed manual, so it's got a good racing feel. I've ridden in it many times, and it's awesome, not to mention it's a truly beautiful car. The interior is pretty spectacular as well. Something worth looking into, just my 2 cents.
