Sorry about that^^^

I hear the stories about that and I know it happens. I won't do it unless it's blatant. And...there is NO complaining when I write the ticket! > Seriously, I have not had ONE "red light" ticket go to court because the red light tickets I have written have all been 100% obvious. If the officer is not sure, he should not make the stop. Plain and simple. That's how it SHOULD work, but does not work all the time. I know.

top gear proved that if you can go through the intersection around 177mph, the camera won't catch you.

ps - i wouldn't recommend it though.

Dude, be quiet ( directed towards op and others whom agree ). It's not hard to follow the law. Don't run a red light and don't speed, simple as that. There is no reason as to why you should have to run a red light. It's not like as you get to the intersection the light skips from green to red immediately, all together avoiding yellow. You get what you deserve.

Heard Moses Lake, WA had cameras all over the place to take pictures of violations and then mail you a ticket. I bet they make a lot of money.

It's not a question of whether or not it's illegal.

There are even more instances of the cameras ticketing people for making perfectly legal turns on red AFTER a complete stop.

The other fact of the matter is that the camera removes your ability to face your accuser.

And lastly, they do NOTHING to increase safety, in fact, they probably cause more accidents than they prevent.

I'm sorry, but I don't think law enforcement should be used for profit. That's absolutely ridiculous. I think we should be keeping our police officers in their jobs, and promoting safety, not manipulating citizens for profit.

I'm all for traffic enforcement by a HUMAN, because that actually keeps our communities safer.

And, I'm all for non-violent protest of the cameras. I don't think destroying them is a particularly good idea, although that tends to be the trend in Europe. I'm a much bigger fan of some other antics involving them, such as putting paper over the camera, wrapping them in wrapping paper, etc.

Edit: And here's my favorite part.
Quote:
A 2004 Texas Transportation Institute study proved that going one-second beyond such bare minimum signal timings yielded a 53 percent reduction in tickets, but more importantly it reduced accidents by 40 percent.
So, basically city governments are signing contracts for red-light cameras and agreeing to set signal times to bare minimums to increase revenue and profit, at the expense of safety.
