Maybe... depends if he was shot while in the actual act of vandalism, if so he can be subject to deadly force to stop him. But, if he takes off running he cannot lawfully be shot (or whatever). The exception would be if he was committing a crime while escaping (like stealing something or using a weapon), in which case deadly force is still permitted. Basically, it depends if the vandal is committing a crime at the moment deadly force is used...

The use of the word "retaliation" makes me believe the vandalism was committed at some point earlier in time... As for a memorial to the vandal...

Oh wow that's just wrong.

Shooting him in the knee cap so he walks with a limp for the rest of his life and remembers his stupidity every cold winters night, yes.

Killing him, no.

A headshot was proabably a bit much.... but thats the risk he took for messing with people's property.

Can we make a poll??

I vote for breaking both his legs with a baseball bat (or any blunt object) preferably at the knee ... so he could never kick anything again. Vandals need to be taught a lesson. A dead vandal cant spread his new-found wisdom, now can he???

I'm thinking the shooter was aiming somewhere else, and the vandal flinched or moved and it ended up killing him.....

Just goes to show, when someone pointing a gun at you says "freeze", do so.....lol....

In all seriousness, sure, killing the guy, even shooting him is over the top, but I promise you if I caught someone doing it to my car, I would beat the guy enough that he wouldn't be going anywhere until the cops showed up.

Much easier to defend yourself and a less severe sentence in a beating than in a shooting.

He was 17! Killing as become so easy in this world. I don't like what your wearing-Boom, your dead. I don't like the way you looked at me-Boom your dead, I don't like you on my lawn-Boom, your dead. You stole my car-Boom your dead. The list of reasons why we kill each other goes on forever.

This is the only life we get and to take someone's for a non-violent crime is abhorrent. Death is final. No second chances; no do overs. That kid will never wake up on this Earth again all because he was vandalizing cars. This kid needed to be punished for what he did, not given a hole in the head.

that does suck. i understand he was young and does not know what it is like to enjoy or care about something you worked very hard for.

Now for the guy to shoot him was stupid, but then again he was 20. (don't take this wrong) but the 20 year old acted just like the 17 STUPID. they both thought they were bad a@# and only one walked away.

again its sad. hope the 20 year old does major time and will think twice before shooting anybody again, as for the 17 year old well...... nothing to say.

The 20 year is supposedly part of a gang and the 17 year old vandalized 4 cars that night.

The 20 year probably won't do major time seeing as this was in Canada.
