Thank God. Enough of that clown car. Normally I try to withhold judgment, as each person has his/her own taste... but blech! Truly an UGLY vehicle.

A buddy of mine actually showed up to work in his. :( He only made that mistake once. He has YET to live down the "how many clowns can you fit in that thing anyway?" comments from everyone.

I was hoping they would put the PT on a larger platform with a V6 or V8 engine,Style it after the 1930's Chrysler Airflow......

The intention was to improve the CAFE scores for their truck fleet so it was intentionally designed to not be able to accommodate anything larger than an I4

Don't be quick to dog the PT Cruiser. Outside of the obvious differences, there are a lot of similarities between it and the new Camaro:

1. Both were the darlings of SEMA; the Camaro last year, the PT Cruiser in 2000.

2. When the PT Cruiser went on sale in March 2000 as an early 2001 model, eager buyers flocked to dealerships to snap up the first copies — and they were willing to pay well above the sticker price.

3. The PT Cruiser was, and the new Camaro is, styling-wise, like nothing else on the road, and that made it a head turner.

4. Both the Camaro and the PT Cruiser have been noted as having excessive blind-spots.

Here are a few comments regarding the PT Cruiser from both the major magazines and the common person on the street:

Quote:
Within five minutes of receiving a PT Cruiser from our friendly Chrysler rep, we had four people ask us about it. One woman ran out of her shop to dive into the Cruizer.
Quote:
Chrysler's announcement that it would start production in the spring of 2000 caused a traffic jam at dealerships as potential buyers queued up to place their orders. Eager customers anxiously waited months for their cars to be delivered.
Quote:
The PT Cruiser sheaths its extraordinary usefulness in retro-chic sheetmetal that tempers the practicality with visual audacity.
Quote:
This is the first car in years that's made me jealous. I arrived at a party in one of my typically cool rides, but a DC employee brought his "fast feedback" Cruiser and spent the evening giving rides. Several partygoers were ready to arm-wrestle for rights to buy it when he's done with it.
Quote:
As I pulled into the church parking lot at twilight for choir rehearsal, I could hear from the adjoining play yard -- through the closed windows of the PT Cruiser -- yelps and shouts. "It's a PT Cruiser!" "Look, a Cruiser!" "Wow, is it one of those new PT Cruisers?" I was accosted by a gang of adolescents who swarmed the car, pubescent girls shrieking as if I, or the car, were a rock star. "Can I look inside??!?" one asked. "Sure," I said, as I opened doors. More shrieks. A flood of questions and comments. Never has a vehicle I've driven generated such adulation.
Sounds eerily familiar to many of the things said about the Camaro, doesn't it?

I only say all of this because, back then, the PT Cruiser was the "cool" car to buy and I was in the market. Thankfully, I did not buy one, as I very quickly grew tired of the styling on the car and, after spending a lot of time with a co-worker who did buy one, found out it was not as much fun to drive/ride in as I thought it would be.

That is one of my fears in choosing my next car. I'm seriously considering a Camaro, but I'm afraid the styling might become "dated" before I am able to pay the car off.

Hated it. I got a "convertible" from the dealership one time. I'm got stuck behind semis on the damn highway going up hills.

Bye bye PT. Something similar, I'm sure, will be back in a few years.

Not going to miss it. I think after 10 years, it's time for a new model in it's place. If GM can come up with something that will sell better than this, then so be it.

I'm happy for those who got one and liked it. But, it never appealed to me.

Big difference between the cars is that the the PT Cruiser was nothing but a novelty car. Like all novelty cars, once the novelty (i.e. the new and different) wear off, you are left with what the car actually is.

In the case of the Camaro, it is a great sports/muscle car in addition to its eye catching styling. So even after the "new" of the Camaro's design wears off, it is still an awesome car in other respects. The PT Cruiser?...that was just a Dodge Neon surrounded by briefly interesting styling, and nothing else.
