The simple sound of how these cars sound from the inside is enough to put a little fear in people. so add a heavy right or left foot and the whole combo could put someone on edge. He'll either continue to deal with it or not...

Scary looking maybe, but we haven't done any cruises yet. One of these days, you'll have to ride with me, and we'll see how you think I drive when I'm driving normally

Hell, when I have passengers, I generally do the speed limit or up to 5mph above.

I really wonder if he's been in an accident previously. I was in one as a teenager and for 4+/- years after I had similar (though not nearly as severe as you describe) reactions- particularly to objects getting near the car. As I said this went away over time.
