I remember reading about this new engine and wanting it in a 1/2 ton truck. I sure hope they go forward with it. I will buy one.

I so want a half ton with an oil burner. Diesel power is pretty much the only reason I was thinking of stepping up to a 3/4 ton when I go to buy...

How is it backwards thinking? Development on this engine began a looong time ago, probably 2005 or earlier. Its been shelved for over a year now, and apparently it was almost ready to go into production. Acknowledging the demand and dusting it off is hardly being backwards.

Europe is very different from North America. Different fuel prices (and therefore emphasis on fuel economy) and different regulations combine for a dramatically different gas to diesel ratio.

not to mention, wanting to go forward with it, and all the strings that are tied to launching a new powertrain combo (right when the economy tanked) was not a viable option at the time. that tied in with the epa requirements meant it was not a good time to go forward. same thing with why they didnt launch a Z28 at the start of camaro production.

just give it some time and it will happen

I'd very seriously consider it depending on price/capability vs 6.6L
