I let my 6yo play gears or war, call of duty, spinter cell...any game he wants really. People need to quit blaming stuff kids do on video games and accept responsibility for the real problem....their parenting.

Should game developers not have the freedom to express themselves and their artistic abilities by creating games they choose? Should gamers not have the freedom to express themselves by purchasing and playing games that they choose? The 1st amendment already covers paintings, drawings, movies and music so why not games as well?

Please tell me, why do you think games should not be covered?
The bolded text has a theme: these are all types of media that have become common place. Video games definitely fall into this category as well and therefore should be protected by the constitution.

I'd rather have a way to be able to restrict porn access on the internet than censor a game. take an adult video store. if you are underage you can't buy an adult mag or vid.

But you can damn sure stumble across it on the web.....

As long as Games follow a rating system for parents to be able to assess the content then so be it. And if it is illegal to purchase a game based on your age without a parent... That's all I can ask for as a parent. Even if a friend of a friend buys a game for my kids, I should still be checking to see what my kids are doing and make a decision.

I dont' need law or Gov. to help me raise my kids. I need tools to determine what is good and bad for my kids.

When they turn 18 or 21. Then it's on them.

The role of a parent is to protect and guide children. When parents fail to do either, children do some crazy things. They don't know any better.

Maybe at the age of 3..... But not as a teenager... They know exactly what they are doing.

I don't see how you can disconnect the Gov. from this topic.

Agreed. I can't seem to understand why they even bother to ask for age at an adult video store anymore.

Depends on how the first amendment is applied here I would think. Also, it would depend on the content. It's not a slam dunk because the legal process is far different than emotional responses. Just because you think it should/shouldn't be regulated, doesn't mean the legality issues will make a decision you like.

Regardless, I'm thinking a video game would not be unlike a newspaper website, which is a protected form of media. But as was mentioned, as long as there are tools for parents to evaluate the game as what's proper for their family, that should be good enough.

Like just about everything else, let the people decide. Don't need any nanny state telling us what we should read/watch/play.

I think the issue we're worried about here is someone telling is what we CAN'T read/watch/play. It all goes back to personal freedom. Me playing a violent (or non violent) video game doesn't hurt anyone, therefore no one has any right to tell me I can't do it.

Trust me any teenagers knows exactly what's they do. It a video game I seen pg 13 movies that are way worse than any m game. Call of duty it has vulgar language and violence. What pg 13 movie doesn't use their right to drop the F bomb once?

Pshhh. Call of Duty isn't violent. When I put a .50 cal into someone's head, I expect to see it explode, not a little splash of blood and then the person dropping to the ground.

That may transcend the "M" rating though.
