I really hope that they don't change the car too much when it comes back, but borrowing from Ferrari concerns me. Vipers are supposed to be absent of any and all sophistication. They go fast through raw brute force and big cubes. They're the Neanderthals of the supercar world, and thats why I respect them so much.

If they plan on sharing things like braking and suspension, I'll be fine with it. But if they get into 'small' (relative to the 8.4L V10 that is) 9000+ rpm motors with a dual clutch transmission and a carbon fibre monocoque body ... well it just won't be a Viper.

Let's be realistic guys, anyone that has driven or ridden in a late-model viper knows it wasn't worth $100,000. The interior is pretty much the same as an 04 srt4. The rest is great, but the viper shouldn't cost more than a z06. The ergonomics need a serious upgrade and Fiat is the one that knows how to do it. They're cool, but they need a serious upgrade to keep up with the competition. I'm very excited to see what happens with Chrysler.

There are 2 things wrong with expecting a quality interior from a Dodge Viper. First, its a Dodge. Second, its a Viper. You don't buy one for comfort or niceties. You buy it because it can out perform nearly any car that costs under a half million dollars. It doesn't cost that much more than a Z06, in fact it pretty much splits the difference between a Z06 and ZR1. And keep in mind, the Corvette can take advantage of economy of scale which the Viper has no hope of obtaining. That plays a big role in the vehicle cost.

I guess it's just me, but I would never spend $100,000 on a car to get the stereo that was in my mom's 2002 durango, the seats of an srt-4 and the overall interior quality of a sebring. Sure, it's fast, but there's a reason the model is out-going. It just doesn't justify the cost. I don't know how anyone could tell themselves they made a good purchase unless they track the car constantly. As a street driven vehicle, it's just plain not worth the money. I don't expect a Ferrari interior, but I expect an interior that can compete with a 1995 bmw from a $100,000 brand new car. There's only so much you can pay for drivetrain/suspension. Now, if viper-esque bad-assery and track performance is your goal, I simply can't deny how insanely sexy the acr-x is.

Oh snap!

Basically, I just don't understand the draw of the base viper. If they're going to make a 100k car, why not make it 105k and work on that interior some?

You're a bit high on the Vipers price. MSRP is a bit under $90k.

If you want a nice interior, and good performance (akin to the base Corvette) get an Audi R8. The Viper simply isn't the car for you. The Viper is for those who believe that everything which doesn't make the car go faster is wasteful. I've heard that the no cost hardcore package on the ACR, which deletes things like the radio and some sound deadening resulting in 40lbs less weight, has something like an 80% take rate. Viper customers aren't normal because the Viper isn't normal, and thats what makes it so awesom.

Besides, the point of having a nice interior is to make the car more livable, right? Nothing else about the Viper makes it very livable. From the excessive interior heat, to the side pipes that will burn your leg, the punishing suspension, and all its other problems. That stuff would have to get fixed as well, otherwise its like putting lipstick on a pig.

MSRP of a new viper coupe starts at 92k with destination. For some reason, the vert is cheaper. It's a car, not a go-kart. More comfortable seats, a dash made of higher grade plastic than a tonka toy and some a/c knobs that weren't taken out of the same parts bin as the first viper wouldn't make the car any slower. Last i checked, dodge needs to make some sales. Obviously, their attacking of a total niche market isn't working. Have you driven any of the new vipers? Like I said, suspension and drivetrain can only cost so much. The car just doesn't feel like anything near a 100k car. This is all just my opinion, but I'm sure many agree. That's probably why they're revising it. We're just arguing opinions, but IMO the viper needs some serious upgrades.
