It probably is sitting higher than a civilian Taurus. Generally police cars have stiffer suspensions and increased ground clearence for manuevers such as jumping curb, etc. I had a 97 CVPI and it was a totally dfferent experience from any other Crown Vic, I know they had additional welds in the frame, additional ground clearance, a special suspension sans air springs. That car would corner EXTREMELY flat, like zero body roll, handling wise it felt a lot lighter than it was. Engine wise, not so much, best I ever got was a 16.1@83 which was considered a quick time for a Vic. I am sure the Taurus should see a similar difference between it's civilian stablemates. That said, I would still pick the Caprice or Charger as the RWD platforms seem to take the abuse better than FWD based vehicles.

My 09 police package impala out runs the road guys 09 crown vics......
I teach EVOC too.... I just don't think a twin turbo awd car is going to hold up like a good old fashioned rwd or NA fwd car. |

Dynamically, I don't think this will hold up against the Charger and Caprice since it is heavier with more nose weight. As for fuel economy, I bet that the TTV6 will feel the added weight a lot more than a V8 would. And it will be about 10 grand more than a similar Caprice or Charger although that represents a lot less of the overall price because of all the added equipment. Ford needs something to replace the Crown Vic, but they won't have nearly the volume with this that they are used to.

I think the Caprice and the Charger are safe.

the caprice? you mean the old one? or is there a new caprice coming out? im sort of confused. because if ur comparing a brand new taurus to an old caprice then the ford would be a better choice right?

GM is making a new Caprice, but it is only for cop cars? I'm sorry, but can you find that thread because I don't see this happening.

There is strong potential for it being sold to the public at a later date
