2. Your job depends on how often you deploy, Ive been in for 8 years and have not seen combat yet :( its kind of depressing cause i really want to go! But i am in the advanced electronics field and we do most of our work in a labratory environment.
3. you should look at both branches and decide what you will be happy doing for at least 4 years of commitment. i joined for the uniforms! HAHA j/k. I am a lifer and enjoy being a Marine
lol i remember when i was reading Flags of our Fathers Rene Gagnon joined the Marines because they had the best Uniform

to the OP do a lot of research before you decide what branch you want to join

If you go MP, just remember that just because you have a badge, you still have a rank to go with that badge Seemed like a LOT of new MPs thought they could talk down to me when I outranked them. A young Lance Corporal comes to mind that pulled me over after he slowed down to get behind me and then proceeded to talk to me without addressing me by rank (I was a Corporal at the time). I corrected him (not so politely) and then had a nice chat with his sergeant when I got back to the shop Sergeant was VERY interested to hear that his Lance Corporal wasn't showing a Corporal the proper respect.

I did crash fire in the Marine corps for 4 years good job no complaints, now im a cop in the Air Force and Ill tell you the pride and espirit de corps is better in the Marines but the quality of life is better in the Air Force, I am actually a combat arms Instructor (which you have to be a cop to be)for the air force and this is the best job I've ever had. I mean how can anyone complain about playing with guns all day.

For the most part in the US Military, pilot = commissioned officer = college degree.

The only exceptions are Army and Navy Warrant Officers who are pilots.

The Navy program is limited and requires experience plus an associates degree IIRC.

The Army will let you apply into what they call Warrant Officer Flight Training where you go Basic Training -> Warrant Officer Candidate School -> Flight Training but from what I understand, most of the guys applying for that have a degree, making the competition for open slots a bit stiff. A GED may be a non-starter as well. A couple of the guys I work with are prior service Army pilots who went through that program.
