My dad would take offense to the use of the word, "former". In his own words, "There are no former Marines. You are a Marine forever. Semper Fi!" I learned a long time ago to not argue with him.

At the time Rome wasn't terribly powerful. Carthage was a North African city/kingdom which had a very powerful navy. Rome and Carthage were battling over the island of Sicily because whoever controlled it controlled trade in the region. In the first Punic the Romans seized Sicily and stopped the Carthaginians from retaking it. The second was a series of tactical victories in modern day Spain and Italy by the Carthaginians, led by Hannibal (it is also when he led elephants across the alps). He was ultimately defeated once he exhausted his supplies and the Romans rebuilt their army. In the 3rd and final Punic war, the Romans brought the war to Carthage itself. It is said that they once they captured the capital city (Carthage) they killed everyone, including women and children. After that, they burned it to the ground. But supposedly, they weren't done yet. The story goes that they then went and plowed salt into the surrounding fields, making them infertile for years to come. They completely obliterated the city and any potential to rebuild. The salting of the earth is likely untrue, but it is clear that they were sending a message: Don't p*ss us off , or you will be destroyed thoroughly and completely.

If I read the article correctly it appears as though there is some propaganda going on in the background.... "In recent weeks, both Hizballah and its Syrian allies have mobilized their forces while telling the Arab world that the Jewish state is about to attack Lebanon." The Arabs are creating a bullshit story about Israeli aggression and using it to justify what they are about to do... This story being published publicly might be a message to the masses in those countries (many of which aren't extremists like their leaders) that it is the Arab nations who are initiating the violence, and that they are being lied to. If that is the reason for this story going public... It's brilliant. |

Sounds like some new video game to me.
Trust me, if this was really happening, with Syria having forces mobilized, the Media would know about it. Some weak zero (officer) would have sold the info. and it would be all over the globe. Besides, we are not yet ready to release all our new advanced stealth weapons. We do not want China and Russia to know how good they are.
