HMm I like it. Nice and angry looking. Though I will say, yeah, the spy Cams at Nissan were working at 120% efficiency !

In other news, cannot wait till Gran Turismo 5 hits !

Is this the car that Toyota and Subaru got together on? I'd like to see the Subaru counterpart for sure

I think that one is supposed to come out as the 2011 Scion tC from what I've heard. Rear-wheel drive with a boxer engine. Not sure that this will end up being it, but if it does then wow!

Looks cool. Toyota needs some cool cars, everything they have is boring.

Toyota's first come back to the sports car market in over a decade looks like a Nissan and is powered by a Subaru.

On the surface this is the best effort to reenter into the enthusiast market in a meaningful way that I've seen from Toyota in decades....literally. That said, the car has one major problem. Unless Toyota is purposely overestimating the msrp of the base FT86 with no turbo and no options is going to be more or less on par with the 2011 V6 Mustang. Where does that leave this turbo version? That's right, smack dab in the price range of a 2011 Camaro SS or 2011 Mustang GT either of which would roast this thing in acceleration and the latter of which would likely kill it on any road course short of an autocross.

I foresee the same problem Toyota always runs into with this kind of car here.....it's going to cost too much.

Yes. Though that version is from their Race division...like our SVT. If you pop around on the net you can see the Subu version..a little more boxy, but not bad looking..they do not look alike at least.

Toyota themselves will release FT86..to fill the void they have for a sportscar. As for the Turbo version..well not sure. Its been said that this model will not see US shores, but who knows what they will do later. From what I have seen on the FT site, a flat 4 turbo is supposed to be available in a higher trim. The subu counterpart is supposed to AWD and Turbo. Should be interesting to say the least as these cars get closer to release.

On the money… That’s exactly what I thought. They have been cross breading competition in the toyota labs…

So off the line, the Camaro would be faster but because the FT-86 will be considerably lighter it would probably beat it on a 1/4 mile.
Not anymore at all. An ecotec 2.0 4 cylinder turbo makes 260 torque from 2000 on up. It's actually got more torque available from 2000 rpm to ~3700 than the 3.6 liter.

The 2.3 liter mazda has 280 lbs of torque available below 3000.

No idea how Toyota will tune theirs, but modern 4 cylinder turbos generally have significantly more torque available in the bottom half of the powerband than NA v6s. (Modern turbos of any cylinder count now have very little lag and they're tuned to spool up early).

I like it. I hope the Subaru version will replace the Impreza in rally racing to make it more competitive vs. The Focus and Citroen etc.
