I'm just seeing this now... I'm a BP agent in AZ. Get ur BA, It doesn't matter what you get it in, CJ majors cover Criminal Law type subject matter, we deal in Immigration Law. I have my CJ major with minor in Political Science. Sometimes I feel like it helps but most of the time it doesn't. The nice thing about having ur Bachelors degree is u get bumped from GS-5 to a GS-7 when u get hired, as long as you've got a good GPA.

I love my job, I get paid to run around outside and hike in National Parks, and catch a lot of Narcotics weekly. The only downside is i'm originally from the Boston area and miss home.

I would shy away from BP, low pay and pretty much a thankless job. Go get your Bachelors and apply for the FBI....have to be at least age 23...and it is very competetive.

My stepbrother who I haven't talked to in a long time, is in the BP. when he joined it was the only federal law inforcement agency where you didn't need a degree to join, and you get the same training that the rest of the agencies get, fbi, cia, etc. it's the only federal agency that I personally know of that pays you over-time, pays extra for working weekends, working nights, etc. My step brother became a BP instructor, and he was in charleston, he got paided a per-diem of 100 bucks a day, which is on top of his normal pay. He lived in a beach house on the isle of palms. not to bad if you ask me.

Being in the military myself for 14 years I can tell you that, (at least in the enlisted air force) you dont get any special raises or get promoted faster for being in a elite unit (IE. Pararescue, TAC-P, EOD etc.) If you are in a combat zone, you do get tax-free pay, hazardous duty pay, family seperation pay, hardship pay, etc. everyone gets that regardless, with the exception of some career fields like EOD they get hazardous duty pay all the time, 300 bucks extra a month. Everyone is under the same promotion standards and everyone is required to take 2 100 question tests every year, which counts as 1/3 of your total score to be elgible for promotion.

There is actually more than 5 levels of classification, secret and top secret have different levels within themselves, and if there was an operation against iran's nuclear plants, 95% of those sailors have a secret clearance, and they all will know what they will be doing.

Really? So you are saying the below does not apply any more?

New agents are hired at the GL-5, GL-7 or GL-9 level depending on education and experience and are paid at a special salary rate for Federal law enforcement personnel. The base starting salary is GL-5 ($36,658), GL-7 ($41,729), and GL-9 ($46,542) grade levels, with excellent opportunity for overtime pay. In addition, you'll receive a uniform allowance of $1500.00 and an excellent Federal Government benefits package including life insurance, health insurance, liberal retirement benefits, and a thrift savings plan (401

I am a retired AFOSI Special Agent and knew a couple guys back in the 90's who were BP, that is where I got my info.

But I will share some general knowledge just to let you know the posts about security classifications. Unclassified is not a classification...and top secret is not the "epitome" of clearances. There are more above that. These are the three general areas.

CONFIDENTIAL: Applied to information or material the unauthorized disclosure of which could be reasonably expected to cause damage to the national security.

SECRET: Applied to information or material the unauthorized disclosure of which reasonably could be expected to cause serious damage to the national security.

TOP SECRET: Applied to information or material the unauthorized disclosure of which reasonably could be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to the national security.

In addition to the above, some classified information is so sensitive that even the extra protection measures applied to Top Secret information are not sufficient. This information is known as "Sensitive Compartmented Information" (SCI) or Special Access Programs (SAP), and one needs special "SCI Access" or SAP approval to be given access to this information.

"For Official Use Only" is not a security classification. It is used to protect information covered under the Privacy Act, and other sensitive data.
WOW, I must have still been half asleep when i typed what i did, or i read his post too fast...but junkie is correct....he just posted it better than I. there is not a classified or unclassified classification

I used to guard a SCIF in Hawaii as an MP. One day after sep11 some assistant secretary of defense guy brought me a letter in a small plastic shopping bag that he thought had anthrax on it. I was like "why the Fudge isnt the assistant defense guy smart enough to leave the believed to be anthrax letter where he opened it". We had to evacuate my post post and the scif pretty much while the FD came and put it in like 3 more bags. I guess it was some letter from grade school kids.

I dont know how some people get the jobs they do. Hook ups I guess.

I worked at kbay and Camp Smith. They had they bright idea to merge the two PMO'S so Camp Smith and Kbay both operated from Kbay. Then a year later they split them up again.

that looks about right, but its very vague as most things are with the government. what it doesn't show is the GS Pay grades are adjusted to where u are living for cost of living (which always makes them go up), and it doesn't show that u can earn up to $30,000+ in OT, Sunday pay, night differential, hazard duty pay, holiday pay, AUO, ect ect. A hard workin PA that is a GS-12 step 1... has the potential to earn about $100,000 a year (before taxes) and as law enforcement damn near everything is tax deductible.

Before anyone jumps on it, We're supposed to get our GS-12's this month, but we'll see if they show up in our next pay period.
OP i sent u a PM.

I'm also looking into getting in this.
I need to get my GPA up though......

This is the year where I buckle down and start getting better grades. Luckily I still have a 3.6 GPA on my degree related classes.

The rest......... not so much
