Well; for instance: I met my boyfriend at school; we were both taking an automotive lecture/ lab at our community college. But yeah, I'm not really into the party scene BECAUSE I prefer more intellectual things... ironically; hanging out with friends (I have a group of very close friends that I hang out with a lot); movies; and I have two horses, so I spend a lot of time out there. Mostly my boyfriend and I just chill at one of our places and work on projects when we don't have plans; I'm also very hands-on and generally have something to work on at home.

But, when I go out socially it's usually to dinner with friends, or a movie, etc. Occasionally we might head to more interactive places like the dueling piano bar downtown (not the same as a regular bar, haha). Might go to the beach at night, or Balboa Park (lots of museums and the zoo); those are the kind of places I would recommend meeting a non-stereotypical SoCal girl.

She's back at my place. A couple days apart made a big difference. She just needed to go up to see a family dentist, then we talked and she came back by train.

I find the stereotypical SoCal girl almost everywhere, including museums (I use to work at one). No matter how high or low you go in the social sphere they're very much all the same (sorry, I've had enough collisions, call me cynical). Some of my closest of friends have found girlfriends that they think are truly "the ones" but in reality have very little in common with them other than a mutual physical attraction. Now a lot of these girls do finally become women, but that's after sleeping with a ton of guys and figuring that's just no way to live, and I'm just not up for damaged goods. I always tell some of my older cousins when we get together that I'm still trying to "conquer" the California girl. Heck, one of my cousins even said "I had to go all the way to New Mexico to bring my wife back home" in response to that shared sentiment. I'm not looking for wifey, I'm not even looking for a girlfreind. It would just be nice to find a cool girl that's down with being herself and wants the same in a guy. Now every girl from SoCal isn't a super-freaklooking for the next hit of....whatever, or a complete ditz and all the other stereotypes you assume to be true of California girls, but the ones that aren't are generally tucked away deep inside somewhere I have yet to find.

With the bleak picture I've painted I have to say that there's potential, she's just not home right now...she's on the other side of the coast working full time now that she's graduated. Even then that's a "wait and see" thing. Wish me well.

I wish you both the best of luck

And I will admit that there are a ton of them around, no matter where you go... just like there are a lot of stereotypical SoCal guys out here, too... and it took me a long time to find one who most definitely isn't. He's also intellectual, and emotionally stable, and we have a lot to talk about, which is why I'm with him. My point was though that you increase the odds of finding someone different, at a different place

But good luck Blur and Scotsman; hope it works out well for you And Mindz, if you want some cool people to show you around to some non-typical spots next time you're in SD, it's the least me and mine can do for a fellow Camaro fiend

Relationships:
1) Be an engineer about it. make a list of things you must have. and make a list of things you can't tolerate. If that person is doing something you know you can't stand or tolerate, and they aren't going to change, you need to look for someone else. If you guys are WAY too different, you're probably in a lot of trouble.

2) birds of a feather flock together.

3) when you finally do meet someone who is in the window of what you want, don't lose it. if you do lose it, learn from the experience. if you start over, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

4) a REAL relationship takes work. talk it out. Put your foot down as needed if you are upset. As others said, when you DO work things out, that is like putting mortar into the foundation. you just made things stronger/better.
