I'm afraid I know the area well, we do alot of Anh. beer loads. Most of your area was developed a few hundred years ago, and they weren't even imagining 70 ft. long trucks having to maneuver there. Thru trucks aren't even allowed off the interstate in Jersey anymore. I know it's easy to get aggravated at situations, but since this is a Camaro site, and I REALLY would like to get along with you guys, let's please keep the trucker tales to a minimum. Remember... Every story has two sides.

I've been tailgated by some real jackasses. But I've had plenty of positive trucker experiences too.
Once, I was on my way back from seeing a buxom, scorching hot Okie lass. Was a two-and-a-half hour drive back to where I lived at the time, and on the way there, a log truck kept riding my bumper, making ill-considered pass attempts and otherwise making me angry and nervous. When I made a turn in a small Arkansas town, I caught the tail end of a four-truck mini-convoy. The driver of the last truck slowed, signaled for me to pass, and sort of edged out into the middle of the road once I'd done so to prevent the log truck from doing the same. By this point, the driver had ample time to see precisely what the guy had been doing. I spent the next hour tucked in between two 18-wheelers in my little '87 Camry. I don't recall ever feeling quite that secure while driving, before or since. When we parted ways in Mena, horn honking and waving was exchanged. It was a good trip.

I agree sticking all truckers in the catagory of low-lifes is pretty iggnorant comment. My uncle and grandfather were both truckers...and personally I don't hate, you guys work hard, are away from your families ALOT, and I can relate to that, it sucks. I've driven large vehicles (45 pax bus is the largest) so I know how it must be. Anyways, comment on the above qoute... I don't care who you are or what you are driving(unless you are a cop lol), if you are in the fast lane on a interstate 2-lane, 4-lane 10-lane or whatever, and you are doing the posted speed limit or under..... SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT posted signs or not, get the hell over!!! It drives me nuts, I don't tail-gate either, but do flash my lights....and another thing DONT TAIL GATE GOING 80mph!!!!!!!! |

Well, having driven a truck for ten years myself, I actually overlooked it. Didn't notice it I guess. Ya, it is pretty stupid to say TDs are all lowlifes. I went out of my way to make sure people weren't inhibited by me. Our trucks were governed so passing could only be done at a certain speed and I wouldn't pass unless I knew I could get out of the way quickly. But some things trucks do that make people mad are not the TDs fault. There is an ignorance by the general public about what trucks can and can't do. Drivers don't do shit on purpose just to piss you off. They spend countless hours on the road and want to get home to see their family as soon as they can. It's the shittiest job I've ever had. Bar none. Some like it. I HATED it. But it paid the bills. And when I was on the road, it was a damn good paying job.
I doubt those trucks did that intentionally. I'll bet one of them had the strength he thought he would be able to pass easily and reallized after he was out there on the left that he didn't and then they hit a down slope and the truck that was passed was loaded or heavier (which is why he was getting passed so slowly) now had the ability to get his speed back. I have DONE IT before. When you are loaded espec. heavy, you slow down on the up grades and speed up on the downs. No way to get around it. It's the laws of physics at work here. My guess, this is what happened. MC69, you know what I'm talking about. OP, those guys weren't doing anything on purpose. Just bad timing. |

I pass our truck driver occasionally on the road (it's the only truck of its kind in the area, and he's the only one locally licensed to operate it, so I know its him...). Now, he's a wild and crazy guy, normally...the stuff he does, well never mind (
)...but when he's in that truck, safe driving is #1, he doesn't take many risks. Especially when loaded with 12 units of drywall....There's really no comparison to driving a car when you're behind the wheel of a Semi, or similar...it's difficult to understand the different set of rules a driver needs to follow.

He's "Class A", I think? To operate a boom-truck up to 8-stories high. He's actually from down south originally. They carted him up here because nobody in the area had the qualifications to drive and operate the thing. Our truck will only reach 4 stories, but he's a freakin' wizard at it. At full-extend, he can get the 3" fork at the end of the boom between my legs (I gave him roughly a 5" gap) without hesitation, and he can load and unload the truck like it was a third arm...Oh, and he gets PISSED if we load him heavy, and he'll tell ya. (Good for him). |

![]() He's heading back home....I'm trying to get him to teach me the basics of using it, cause occasionally, we'll need to move the truck or the arm when the driver isn't around (after hours, etc)...it'd be nice to have someone who knows what they're doing do it...rather than a noobie like last time...
