I believe 2013+ S197 Mustangs packed 420HP.

Well known that they were quicker than S550 due to being lighter. I think just a hair over 3600lb.

I realize that on a Camaro site the kia isnt going to get any accolades, but they are a company to be respected for some of the the moves that they're making… They are finding some good people to put these cars together....I drove this car last week, and after spending years in M5's, it's just as strong…

The company has spent the past decade or so stockpiling high-priced talent from around Europe — Germany in particular. This includes chief designer Peter Schreyer, the person behind the Stinger's striking looks, whose résumé includes time as Audi and Volkswagen's head of design. In addition, Luc Donckerwolke, the former design boss at Bentley and Lamborghini, was brought in to oversee design work at Hyundai-Kia's Genesis premium brand.

The biggest hiring coup for Kia's performance ambitions, however, was the arrival of Biermann. The BMW M-division vice president of engineering left Bavaria for South Korea in 2014. During his three decades at BMW, Biermann served as the architect for many of the company's most respected performance cars. They include the BMW M3, the M4, and the M5 along with countless winning BMW Motorsports racers.

The German engineer was brought in make Kia's cars drive like the automotive legends he so frequently created at BMW.

The Koreans are hungry and state sponsored, they remind me of the Japanese 10 to 15 years ago. They will do anything for market share, spend any amount of money, and keep their dealers very happy by warranty'ing everything and asking the dealers to put up sensible facilities. Roger Penske has been often quoted as saying the Koreans have got the rest of the industry scared. I agree, when you talk to their dealers. They are targeting the extremely lucrative BMW/Mercedes-Benz/Lexus market, not so much the Camaro and mustang

I really hate the fact I see so many Kias and Hyundais on the road. I'd like to see American car manufacturers getting that business.

I call foul. I can't see a 15-17 Mustang GT running times like that and have them be considered on par and the Kia running a 12.8 and that being the norm, too. Something is amiss, like, they got the numbers backwards.

This was the automatic, RWD version using launch control.

Car & Driver Magazine, which tries very hard to be scientific about this stuff, got a 14.7 from the Kia and a 12.9 from the Mustang GT (2016 model) in the 1/4-mile test. I tend to trust those numbers over a stupid internet video.

Many of them are built here giving Americans jobs. The Sorento and Optima are built in Georgia. These are some of the best vehicles built these day. Just google the new Sorento. You will be hard press to find much negativity about it. This Company is really working to change its image. To me, the biggest thing holding them back is their name itself.

The Stinger is a great car for a first try in that world too. I just have to wonder if many will buy it no matter how good it is or performs simply because of the name on it. That would be a shame for sure.

https://www.caranddriver.com/kia/stinger

Car and driver has it at 12.9. There is also a video of a 12.6 run beating a vette.

This car is for real. Just the fact that we are talking about Kias on a Camaro forum proves that.

I agree with you. Something is off. I could see maybe the Mustang driver having a bad day, but there's not a driver who could shave that much time off of the Kia's run. The Kia weighs in at 3,611 lbs. not much lighter than the Mustang, and has quite a bit less HP.

What doesnt add up is dray's comment is wrong. The highest number Ive seen yet is a 13.3 by motor trend. C&D GOT A 12.9 OUT OF IT.

That was a pre-production model with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires.

It was 14.7 with all season tires in the Audi/BMW comparo.
