sherob, thanks I'll do research. The guys at the gun shop pointed me towards Colt M4, Browning, and Springfield Armory AR-15...seems a bit much, but I'm no expert.

If you just want to go cheap, get a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70. It's a old style lever "John Wayne" type... iron sights... but is drilled and tapped for a scope. It'll do the job for half the price of the S&W, but it's not as versatile.

Just my humble opinion.

My Smith and Wesson M&P is a great tool but honestly my single shot .223 Harrington Richardson is my do-all rifle be it deer or hog.

Way easier to clean too.

How big are the hogs in your part of Texas? Feral swine around here range from 75-250 lbs, I think they get a good bit bigger out in your area.

I was just getting ready to post that we loaded the truck with corn and PRB in College and would go hoging downtown on a Saturday night. I think they were hunting us more than we were them though.

I've honestly only hunted once, so I'm not sure of the average size that were in the area. Hopefully I don't encounter something that I can't take down that has no fear!

Well, I shopped at Walmart and saw several but they could've been visiting from Okie-homa I guess.

I'm real dry here and close to their outer most western range. Anything over 200 is good size with most running not much over 150. I'm more likely to see bobcat or javelina most days.
