My wife and I like our Cobalt SS(which is now called the sport). It has better suspension, brakes and 17" rims. I have driven a couple of rental Cobalts and there is a big difference between the two. If she liked the Cobalt, she will really like the sport. But if we hadn't bought the Cobalt, we would of bought a Jetta. I am looking for a 96 to 98 Jetta right now for a commuter car. I have always liked VWs and I have owned a few.

If anything I've always favored American cars (GM particularly) I like imports as well, but in a different way. I like the exterior of American cars & the interior of Imports.. , I like how customizable they are (import interiors). Import exteriors are generally ugly to me tho.I like the boldness of American cars...

Maybe Saturn Astra (basically a rebranded Opel Astra for US market)? Cheap, reliable, nice (the latest looks really good), with a decent handling (front-wheel drive), with manual stick-transmission and very decent fuel economy. All in all a very good european car.
(hey, not everyone's needs can be met by a Camaro or other Americans! )

The styling might be a little 'out there' but the new lancers are really good cars from what I've heard, lots of room, 4 doors, good mpg, and the interior is quite nice.

Chevy Malibu or Saturn Aura would be worth looking at. The new HHR SS though would be cool as well.

My parents are looking at getting an Aura. They seem like pretty good cars. From what we've found out, the I4 isn't worth it.
