I have another AutoX this weekend and track in 3 weeks. I will report impressions after both.

Thanks, everything so far is leading me to stick with my original plan MRR017s+GYSC3s, unless I find those elusive 1LE takeoffs.

The new ZL1 comes with 20" Wheels. I believe autox allows you to go up or down 1". Any experience is downsizing one size (19" in my case), for less wheel/unsprung weight and greater tire selection? This would be for road course and autoX applications. Better or worse performance? Most of the tires listed above do not come in the OEM 20" sizes.

The RE71 is an Autocross specific tire. Compound is designed to build heat fast so they stick on the short time autocross tracks. Regardless of treadwear ratings they will perform much better at an autocross than a lower treadwear track tire, because they heat up so quick. They are basically useless for a trackday, its just the wrong application.

I'm still debating on which tires I want. I'm really waiting for the Cintinental ExtremeContact Sport to come out this month to see what price point they are. Depending on that I'll be going with either those or the Kumho PS91 or the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. The Indy 500 are just a rebadged Potenza RE003 which have had good marks overseas. My wheels come tomorrow so I'm hoping to make up my mind on tire choice in the next few weeks. I'm running FS in auto-x this season so weren't going to change the stock wheels out until the end of the season anyway so I'm in no rush. I do have an HPDE coming up in 2 weeks (Chuckwalla) but I'll just stay on the stockers for that also. I'm going to keep my stock wheels and just use the Apex square setup for track days and auto-x. |
