I moved out to Durham, NC back in late 2013 and moved back to Seattle last year. The entire time I was out there, there wasn't any kind of significant Hurricane. I never really got to experience the aftermath of one inland in places like Atlanta where I spent a lot of time. Even the remnants can be deadly if they go inland.

We get windstorms here and the occasional Typhoon remnants out here...however the weather is pretty nonthreatening most of the time. Only thing we need to worry about as far as nature is earthquakes & volcanos...and I'll take those things over Hurricanes & Tornados any time.

Stay safe!

This isn't just another hurricane, it's a cat4-5 that is merging with a secondary system. Models are now predicting it's going to bounce off the coast then fully integrate with Nicole before hitting Florida a second. There is absolutely no way I'd remain in Florida with what is coming. Especially after hunkering down on Hurricane Ike in 2008, 90 miles inland. We had trees flying like missiles into peoples homes and 60-90 mph winds, again, 90+ miles inland. Some places didn't have electricity for a month. Galveston had a 22+ foot storm surge, homes on the coast were completely leveled and all of this from a category 2 storm. Matthew will hit landfall on the first pass as a Cat 4+, please gtfo and God bless.

It'll have drastically weakened by the time it loops back around. Not even a hurricane.

Please be wise & safe friends in harms way. My daughter is in Havana & works in Tallahassee. She should be okay. Tennessee has sent all our disaster relief trucks & they are staged in Tallahassee. She just said National guard, electric trucks from all over the place & other disaster recovery trucks are all staged in her area.

My wife's sister lives 8 blocks from the ocean in Jacksonville beach. Her house and the school she teaches at are expected to be under water. Working lots of overtime and will be at the fire station at least until after the storm passes out of Charleston. Not expecting it to be nearly as bad here as in Florida. Praying for all involved.

Unless you are close to the beach or someplace that will flood, the actual hurricane is scary, but not particularly dangerous. The part that REALLY SUCKS is the aftermath when you have no power, it's hot, and nothing is open.

If the roads are open, that's the time to leave.
