For the biting from a puppy you need to Yelp like a dog would. They are playing and you are playing. Swatting and "no's" do no good at this time in my experience as it is playtime.

Unsure of the reason but dogs are hard wired for a "Yelp" to stop biting during play.

I just have a couple Boston Terriers but they are very playful dogs. As puppies everytime they bite during play I Yelp. Actually reach a point where the dog will look you in the eye while mouthing your hand testing how hard it's ok to bite. That is the magic moment where the dog learns what is acceptable bite pressure for play.

Believe me im doing everything, he just doesn't seem to get it. It's only been 2 weeks, but as i said earlier i am relentless on this potty issue. At times he will go outside and pee, then the next time will stand by the open door and pee.
9 weeks old and you have had him for two weeks?
Maybe just need more time

I highly recommend books by the Monks of New Skete - they train German Shepherds

Mark, i've had 3 Shepards and they are one of the best dogs you'll ever own. Yes they are FULL of energy for the first few months, you just need to stay with it. It's A LOT of work but will be worth it down the road. They are great learners and will work for you or for them. What i mean by that is they are a Work Dog and that's what THEY love doing. They want to do things. You need to find what they like and what you want them to do. Again a lot of work for the first year but it will get easier. I miss my 2 boys. Cloten and Bradex. Wish i had time for another. Once i do, it will be another. Good luck brother and see you at the Track.

I did what a doberman owner & trainer showed me. He puts a mild pepper sauce on his arms.

I trained my 2 Lab's so know what to do, but this dog is so stubborn, he gets a stern smack and NO!!!! and it's like i didn't say anything, he just keeps coming back for more. Nothing seems to work, that's why i just wanted to hear from you guy's what your experience was. Thanks
OMG... your describing ours. This is our second. The last one was so obedient. This one... no so much. So hyper... play bites, jumps,... you name it. When I come home even after 10 minutes he goes nuts like I have been away for a week. The this is, we keep telling ourselves he will slow down once the puppy wears off. She's almost 2 now. All in all great fog though. Very loving and wonderful with my kids.

having owned 4 , 2 males & 2 females pups imported from Germany yours is young right now at 9 weeks . keep things short but repetitive, this has worked for me . we were doing schutzhund training which is tracking , obedience and protection work. mine all loved to do this and I enjoyed it as well . the last female I had was stubborn as well , at the beginning she would decide at 2 30am it was time for a pee but would not want to come in . this was a game for her , don't come when called just run around . so I put the long lead I had (25 ft ) she could run and then she learned to come when called . we even went to a trainer friend of mine to assist me with her stubbornness . I was always talking to her through out the classes and she came around . it is a lot of work but well worth it . I would not get another breed of dog for me. good luck

I'm enjoying my first puppies now. The one with the ears down is the family's. The other one hopefully is going to be my narcotic/tracking dog. Both come from a tracking/narcotic/protector family line. I have to say that these two have been a handful, but very smart and fast learners!

I'm not a professional dog trainer but if when he jumps on you you give him a toy he's going to think when he jumps its play time. I had a rotty that jumped a lot I got into the habit of every time he jumped I would bring my knee up after about a week he really cut back.

I have 2 boxers now very active dogs. What works the best is 2 walks a day 2-3 miles each. A tired puppy is a good puppy!!
