if mpg and saving 10k are appealing (especially for commuting) the v6/i4 are the way to go.
if you are considering a 2SS for commuting, a used Tesla in the high 40's would make a lot more sense |

I thought the RS was a model because it comes with a badge just like the SS does..

I completely disagree with anyone of the mindset "V8 or nothing". I have the SS now...and its just ridiculously fast. Faster than I'll ever need in my type of driving.
The V6 is fast too...just not as fast. But this mindset that V8 = fast, and everything else equals secretary's car is just nonsense plain and simple. Now its V6 = fast...V8 = stupid fast.

Just chiming in here, take some of what I say with a grain of salt.
I drove a 1lt yesterday and I can say without a doubt you won't be disappointed. It was very fast and the exhaust is absolutely intoxicating, the car I tested did not even have dual mode exhaust and I was shocked at how amazing it sounded. I had the dealership employee record me as I was driving it and the video doesn't do the sound too much justice and when I showed the video to my friends they all asked me if it was the V8 and had a look of shock on their face when I said it was the V6. On the other end of the spectrum I just came back from testing a 16 Mustang GT and while the exhaust on that was great it didn't feel as loud as the LT, it was deeper but I felt like it didn't feel as loud. I'm listening to both recordings and the sound is more present on the Camaro. As far as speed is concerned both pushed my head back in my seat so definably the LT's won't disappoint with that. |

The 2016 CAMARO SS trim levels with the V8, either 1SS or 2SS are meant to drag race or go on a track. Plain and simple. 0-60 time in 4 seconds with the automatic transmission. As a Daily Driver, you will never be able to legally utilize that power. Don't understand why people buy the V8 except to get speeding tickets and what not. PLUS, you have to put premium gas in it. I have the new 2LT V6, 335 h.p., 0-60 Time in 5.1 seconds with the automatic transmission. As a daily driver with this all new V6, I will never be able to utilize all this power.

I'm going 2LT V6. It's around $6k cheaper than a comparably equipped 2SS (no wheel or brake upgrade, no MRC).
I had a 1995 Corvette Coupe for several years. Let's compare to that: Weight: 3203 lbs Engine: 350 cu in V8 Power: 300 Hp. 0-60: 5.4 seconds (manual) (Note: The ZR-1 from that year has a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds). Source: http://www.corvsport.com/Corvette/C4...fications.html 2016 Camaro LT: Weight: 3339 lbs Engine: 3.6l V6 Power: 335 Hp 0-60: 5.2 seconds (manual) Source: Google "2016 chevrolet camaro 2lt" The camaro is faster to 60mph than my corvette was, and the 'vette was hella-fun. Assuming constant acceleration, 0-60, using "v = a * t", you get: 60mph = (60 * 5280 / 3600) ft/sec = 88 ft/sec v = at, a = v/t, a = (88 ft/sec) / 5.2 sec = 16.9 ft / sec**2 Going 0-60 in 5.2 seconds requires an acceleration of 16.9 ft/sec**2. But "1g" is 32 ft/sec**2, so: acceleration = 16.9 / 32 = 0.52g. The V6 will push you back in your seat with half a g of acceleration. Note that according to the corvette performance source above, the ZR-1 for that year had the same 0-60 time as the 2016 Camaro V6. (!) I'll never convince the "V8 or nothing" crowd, but my fun in the V6 will not be at all diminished by the existence of a faster production model. These times were fun in '95 and they're fun now. Roads that were twisty then are still twisty now. This car will be awesome on those roads just like my vette was then. Is the V8 quicker? Sure. 1.2 seconds quicker. That is NOT worth $6k plus premium gas to me. I'm not (ever) going to a track. I also don't feel like I compromised with a V6. I can prove I'm not because I'm paying cash for the 2LT and could do the same with the V8. It's not that I can't afford the V8, I just see no reason to get it. The V8 has a mission. So does the V6. There's a lot of overlap between those missions. If you need the extra power for racing, track, ego, whatever, fine. I think you should totally get the V8. I'm glad they make it. Respect. But if like me you are never going to be in a situation where the V8 will be required, then the V6 is ideal. In certain performance regimes (where most of the daily driving is done), there's very little difference between the two. It's only out on the edge where it becomes apparent. IMHO, those extra two cylinders are pretty expensive. Sure you need 'em? |

I got the V6. Would I have loved to get an SS? Sure, but for me the V6 made more sense price wise, and the fact that I would never really get to utilize the SS around town was a factor as well. Hell, I don't get to utilize the power that my V6 has. A car that runs in the 13's is nothing to sneeze at.
In a way I feel like I upgraded to a V8 compared to my 2013 2LS. I can feel that this car is quite faster and it has a rumble to it that my 2013 didn't have. In fact when I took my 2016 out for a test drive the first thing my girlfriend said was, "this sounds like the Z28 that you had." Having said that, I do agree with all those people who say, "Don't get a V6 if you're going to sit back and regret not getting a V8." If you're going to second guess your purchase then you aren't going to be totally happy with it.

I also want to add that the V6 with the NPP is probably the best sounding V6 I've ever heard. I hate V6 noise, but man does that car sound good. It reminds me of the Nissan VQ motors.
