On the contrary, this nation was founded on the principle that we hate taxes and will get up in arms over the smallest hike. Protesting taxes is the original American past time, going far beyond baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet.

it is not even a good joke;
Sure it is nice that 'we' get a few of our $$$ back... The funny part is how the Reaganomics - supply side economists- have turned 'repeatedly' to funding a 'demand' side economic boost- with the tax 'rebate'.

The way I see it, if you wouldn't want the gov to regulate your paycheck then they shouldn't regulate anything else. jmho.

Edit: In some of my earlier posts I've cited data that shows the government makes far more money on a dollar of gas then the oil companies do. This thread is full of good information that may be worth your time, if you haven't already seen it.

I don't think we want them to be able to set the price of gas at will. The only people who make more money on a gallon of gas is OPEC. Too close to socialism for me.
Well...when I mean regulate it...I mean keep the price with-in reason, and regulate it from climb so high so fast!

Prices will go back up.

That economic stimulus package helped me to pay off some bills. It wasn't any joke to me!

If I was a betting man, I would say that oil will go back up.... but I am thankful for the price going down... Just wish it would stay down:(

+1

In my opinion it wasn't fair but it helped. The only problem I have with it is that if you made too much money, you didn't get as much in your check. but you paid more in taxes.

It will stay down if we can drill, build refineries, and get alternative fuels to the market.

I've heard that there is going to be an investigation into price manipulation, caught a little blurb on the news last night. I can't tell you anymore, has anyone else heard something similar?

My impression is congress flexing. But, if they find information that is credible. Then I say hammer away with the Ati-trust law suit.

Where is Teddy Roosevelt (the trust-buster) when you need him?
All that work they did 100 years ago- splitting up oil companies....
Now they are merging back together. Supposedly to cut costs, definitely to increase profits, probably not to benefit consumers (at least with $per gal).

And of course gas prices are already rising at the pumps here. And, No, prices didn't drop at the pump when oil prices dropped. Why do they go up so quickly at the pump when oil is up???
