GM bias aside how can you guys seriously vote for the Equinox as TRUCK of the year?

In bold are things that don't equal trucks. They are only marginally SUVs. So is this really crossover of the year?

I voted for the Raptor- I would have voted for it anyway- but it's the only fracking truck on the list.

Because I wasn't asked to make the distinction between truck and not-a-truck. I was asked to vote for the best car on that list. They could have called them "pomegranates" for all it matters. And the Equinox absolutely kicks a$$!!!

So basically, what you're saying is you voted for two different cars for the cars list. Its just the cars list was split into two sections one list labeled cars and another just labeled 'trucks' for fun because no one was pithy enough to use the word pomegranate- hey and what the heck is this Raptor doing on the misnamed cars list?

And I am just messing with you- this is not a pet subject that will cause me to lose sleep, but in my mind will always be:

*A truck is something designed primarily to haul cargo or tow objects.
*An SUV is based on a truck but some of it's capacity to haul was given to the handling of additional occupants. It still retains a good percentage of its ability to haul and tow.
*A crossover is a vehicle based on a car that has the additional height of an SUV but makes little to no concession to the ability to haul or tow.

The motoring press has started to call any old mamby pamby glorified AWD minivan a truck these days and it's annoying.

No, I agree with you on what a truck is and what a car is and what's in between.

We just weren't charged with making the distinction...they gave a list and said "vote". And so I did.

hey, I didn't write the list ... I just copied and pasted.

But, given that there are only 2 categories ... what are crossovers more like, in terms of function and capability: cars or trucks?

Cars. Technically station wagons and mini-vans. Americans don't think it's cool to drive station wagons and minivans so they designed their station wagons and minivans to look like SUVs. I'll up the Q7 to truck though because it's got a 5500 tow rating without a split maximum/standard tow capability rating.

Everybody -
I'm the founder of Internet Car and Truck of the Year and new to this forum. I love the observations you are making. You raise great points about what makes a truck. I can't disagree with Mr. Icky's observation: "The motoring press has started to call any old mamby pamby glorified AWD minivan a truck these days and it's annoying." Any suggestions you have about what to call the truck category would be greatly appreciated.
