I've turned down second and third offers from people who aren't the first and I've lost a couple of days sometimes but in the end, it sells and I'm not the asshole who told someone I'd hold it and then sold it out from under them.

Sold a 2003 Tacoma with 58k on the odometer some years back to a guy in Syracuse when I was in North Carolina. I didn't take a deposit or anything; he just called and said he was flying down in a few weeks to get it but was worried sick that I'd sell it out from under him. Didn't blame him for being scared but now he knows there's a least one other guy in the world who lives up to his word (most of the time).

Money talks. BS walks. You want it, come get it. If not, someone else may get it in front of you. I hesitate to "hold" items for the same reasons given here already.

But if there's certain circumstances, I will hold something for someone, and if I do, I do. No ands, ifs, or buts. I am a man of my word.

I am in NH, as a result most trucks I am looking at have rocker/frame/more rust issues. Definitely not expecting perfection, truck I referred to above had paint beat to shit and needed some exhaust work.

Tough market up here, trucks get pretty pricey for beat to shit examples. I have looked at about half a dozen in the last 6 weeks that were claimed to be in great shape and I could put fingers through the rockers and parts of the frame.

My wife and I could afford a much more expensive option, but for what I need it for it doesn't seem worth it.

I 100% agree with those about hesitations to hold anything, but simple enough just tell folks you won't hold for anyone, but if you tell someone you are going to, I see it as a matter of integrity to be a man of your word.

I was actually the first one to look at the truck and contact him, just no one was home so couldn't test drive.

Oh well, is what it is and the search will continue.

Yep, 1st to show up with the $ gets it. I don't hold anything for anyone, been raked over many times because of my "integrity".

Im selling to the first person that shows with cash cause I'm not waiting for another flopper(not to say you were goin to; but past experiences determine future ones).

Yeah I understand why someone would make a decision not to hold a car, but if that is the case, simple say it. No need to lie about it, there is absolutely nothing to gain.

If that guy was honest with me and said he wasn't holding it for anything, then cool, I wouldn't care, but that was not the case.
