Nah it is not a manual in my book. I abandoned Alfa after nearly 30 years involvement with the brand over this. To me a tap shift is like using a computer to compose music vs being able to play the instrument to create it. Driving should be like being able to play guitar vs some guitar hero stuff. Alfa has built some wonderful engines and transmissions over the years, this one has too much involvement from Fiat.

I know that autos are more efficient these days than manuals, but for me, there is no better driving experience than a manual with a clutch.

If I wanted paddle-shifting I'd play video games.

+1

Companies call cars with paddles 'manual' so the poor suckers can feel better about themselves driving an automatic. The whole manual thing is all marketing if it aint got a clutch pedal and a stick its NOT a manual I dont care what anyone says, the sad part is people are actually falling for it on here too

Here is a proper vintage Alfa with their wonderful gearbox.

The 4C is a good step in direction for Alfa, but the lack of a manual option is not the best idea. Sadly most if not all cars will eventually be like this.

The problem is that when people (like me) buy the manual they do so with the knowledge that they are sacrificing performance. Fewer and fewer are willing to do that anymore so unfortunately I see the manual doomed to extinction.
