I couldn't imagine being in a Sherman and running across a Tiger. Good thing the Germans made there tanks so complicated, that they could't produce as many.

The complexity was felt even more in the reliability & maintenance of them. Breakdowns are more common, because there are more things to go wrong. And it takes longer to fix them after they break. The Panther, Tiger, and Tiger II were impressive on the battlefield for sure ... but when they're suck at the side of the road because the engine quit on the way to the front, they aren't a threat to anyone

And while I wouldn't want to be in a Sherman when facing down a Tiger, I'd be even less willing to be in a Panzer III when I run into a troop of Shermans. In one situation, you have little hope. In the other, you have no hope.

Good movie which will help demonstrate a little bit to the younger generation what our ancestors went thru for our freedoms. I am always in awe of WWII movies at the resolve our country had to see it thru !
I would put it up there with saving private Ryan

This was a great movie. And I will give it to Shia Whateverhisnameis. He did a great job when he is not Danny Kaye"ing" up the screen like he did since Transformers 2.
Excellent movie!!!

I'll probably go see it in the next couple of weeks. But speaking of WWII movies ... there's kinda been a bit of a lull in WWII movies lately. Other than Inglorious Basterds & Captain American (which hardly count) ... what has there been in the last few years? Red Tails & that one about reclaiming stolen art? Around the year 2000 there were quite a few memorable (though not always good) WWII movies. Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, Wind Talkers, Enemy At The Gates, U-571 ... but in the last five or so years there hasn't been much.

WWII has fascinated me since I could read. I think it's good that we are not saturating the market with WWII films right now: too much of a good thing.

The one about stolen art was a Clooney film called "Monuments Men"

Sounds like a good one to see.

Anyone here ever see "Fat Man & Little Boy"? Not that great as a stand alone movie but still was a good historical story. I enjoy anything related to that part of WW2 history.

Saw this last night. I have such a hard time wrapping my head around how horrible this period of time was, how many paid the ultimate price for our freedom. This movie absolutely gutted me, when a movie leaves you holding your breath, while on the edge of your seat and makes you feel like somehow you were there, that's a good movie. I almost had to get up during one scene due to the brutality.

Our vets are heros, my grandfather fought with the British forces in Africa, then Italy until the war ended, my brother is an Iraq vet, also with the British military. We must not forget, but as the years pass, so too do those who served in these world wars, will movies be the only way to remember? especially for younger generations who don't have a direct contact with someone who was impacted by the wars? My grandfathers war records were declassified in 2011, Because of my brother's rank, we were able to obtain the records back in 2000, on condition we didn't publish them. There have been a number of books written since, I think as more if this info is put together, maybe there will be more movies as there are so many stories still to be told.
