In the video you can hear the engine in Tony's car rev right before the contact. There is no reason for tony to give the car gas at that time other than if he was trying to kick the rear end out and scare him and/or hit him. Tony has a bad temper.

Don't know much about this sport but could've he been down shifting to slow down?
And how fast do you think he was going roughly?

Yeah, except that is amateur video... and what audio is captured on a cell phone is not necessarily what video is captured. There is zero way to tell what vehicle was revving or where it was located based on the video. Case in point, if you've ever watched drag racing videos shot on the line, you can hear cars in the burnout box better than cars on the line. Not to mention, on a fast revving race car, that could just as easily have been a downshift.

I'm by no means saying it didn't happen, only that the video doesn't necessarily villainize him.

Source: I work in broadcasting.

Bottom line, there were two attitudes at play here, and he walked 30 feet out onto an active race track. When you put yourself in harms way, there is a chance that harm will happen. Especially when sprint cars that are designed to oversteer and not turn in.

I would bet my 1LE that the engine sound in the video was Tony's car. You can see it fishtailing which corresponds with the revving. I'm not saying he meant to do it, maybe he was just trying to scare him. But yeah they other guy shouldn't have been on the track in the first place.

He almost got ran over buy the cars in front of tony then he kept walking down the track. I highly dought tony even seen him till it was to late. It also looked like the kid got out of the groove and wrecked on his own IMO.

It was just a matter of time before this happened. About the only good thing that will come out of this is rules to keep drivers from getting out of their car to confront drivers under caution.

Watch the beginning of the video again. Video was taken pretty close to the straight. Accident was 3/4 into the turn. Any reving of engines would be from the straight as it's closer.

Where do I pick up your 1LE from?

Terrible...

But common sense should have prevailed here and Ward should have stayed in his car....a much safer place.

You can say what you want but plain and simple he cause his own death by running on to the track. Tragic, yes, but his own fault. Sad none the less.

Tony Stewart has a history of picking fights and bullying younger drivers especially in the Sprint Cup Series, other drivers like Earnhardt Jr, Edwards or someone more his size he doesnt mess with. He tried bullying Logano last year and it didnt work out too good.

In Tony's defense I would never ever beleive that he would do something to cause the death of another driver and I dont think he did in this instance either, that young man made a fatal mistake by exiting his race car on a dark section of the track and was accidently hit and killed. God Speed for this young man.

And I hope this ends Tonys career in dirt track racing, he needs to focus on where his bread and butter comes from but it wouldnt surprise me if he was ever the same after this incident.
