To the OP, I respect your intentions- but really, you should have minded your own business.

Hmm, I say I agree with op. I have the local police stations from the towns I drive through (40mile commute) on speed dial because I am usually driving home from work or hanging out between 12-5 in the morning and there are so many idiots and drunks out at that time. I maybe give them a call about twice a month. If it's something minor I'm all about minding my business, but I've seen people driving on the wrong side of the street doing ninety, swerving about like that drunk chick from 40 yr old virgin and even a stabbing at a night club as I was a a stoplight next to it. So bravo to OP, too many seem to be content with letting the world become a shittier place.

are you kidding me?

I applaud what he did. If a life is unable to take care of itself, and the parents aren't capable of it either, somebody should step in.

Maybe he just saved a life. You don't know.

Angry

That reminds me when a family of idiots t boned my first car the Malibu and of course the kids were not belted in or in car seats 2 of them had to be rushed to the hospital. the mother of them was screaming at me "YOU KILLED MY BABY!" I later had my insurance (NY insurance and i still had NY plates on the car) and they told me the $$$ in damages and hospital $$$ they took care of it. but like 3 or 4 years later (just before the cut off for lawsuits i guess) I get a letter from a lawyer saying I am being sued. it does not matter that the kids were not buckled in but that i caused the accident (i was making a u turn on a back road and he hit me doing at least 10-15 over the limit but did not get a ticket as they could not prove it ). I hate HATE idiot parents who drive around and leave their little ones in the car while driving. i SWEAR i came behind and passed a car where a 2-3 year old was sleeping on the rear window shelf between the window and the rear seat. I rolled down my window and honked to get their attention and she glanced at me and SPED UP !

I see the OP said the kid was too young to understand but something tells me the kid will have it in his/her vocabulary rotation before he's 5.

No I'm not kidding you lol. Are you kidding me?

Which of these resolutions seems appropriate when you see someone in the act of an infraction level ticket:

a) Call the police.

b) Follow them for an extended distance and then have words with them.

Wait, let me ask a cop (yes I'm serious). Hmmm, surprisingly his answer is that the OP's behavior was dangerous and could be perceived as threatening to the other person. IE, the person with the kids may have grounds to press charges for assault "In the tort of assault, intent is established if a reasonable person is substantially certain that certain consequences will result; intent is established whether or not he or she actually intends those consequences to result". 2 miles of pursuit can "cause apprehension in the victim that harmful contact is imminent.".

Basically, even though the intent was to do a good deed and educate- you probably created a higher level charge for yourself (misdemeanor) then for the lady (infraction). And you opened yourself up to civil penalties.

Again, I love the intent, but the act was ill advised. Disagree with me all you want, I'm just telling you what the law says on the issue. Not to mention that you could get shot, etc.

Alright Mr. Troll with Kim Jung Il as the avatar.

He could have called the police, but at the same time he wanted to get the message across on the spot. The police could be seen as a broadsword, while his actions could be seen more as a surgical scalpel.

With that said, you are saying that he should have kept to his own business? I'll grant you that calling the police might be a better option depending on what he wanted to do, but you suggested that he do nothing at all.

Oh, how does that famous phrase go? "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing"

At least this man took action. More than what you would do, given by your words so far.

So yes, I love the internet too. The hypocrisy is amazing, and the stupidity astounds me.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." <--are you kidding me? Regarding seatbelt laws and child seats-it's an INFRACTION? I believe it's a $50 ticket in Missouri. So no, honestly- I don't think he should have taken the actions he took. Seriously- not a week goes by where I don't see an unrestrained child and my state has a $100 fine. And honestly, if I called a cop- do you think a cop would go out of his way to track down an infraction?

I don't 'love the internet'. I love the 'intent'. Honestly- the OPs heart was in the right place-I bet he's a great guy. He makes some great posts, but I believe he took a lot of big risks for this level of wrong doing. I never insulted the OP. I'm being honest- I asked a cop. I work with cops. The OP may have been accused of a larger crime than the lady committed. -no troll, that's honest to god truth.

And nice job turning it into an ad hominem. You don't know me- just because I wouldn't take action on this doesn't mean I wouldn't take action when it's warranted. This one was pretty low reward for the risk. If I had seen that mother put that cigarette out on the child I would have followed her, called the cops, chased her home- who knows what else.

Sorry to derail- I felt the need to defend myself.

Call it natural selection. With luck, Child Services will take the kids from the meth head, and let nature take its course.

She is an idiot for not being responsible but to go that far out of your way is kinda redicoulous.

Junk, I saw that post... I was driving home after an "all night door knock" we did one time, I was in my truck(it's in my sig) and this stupid Neon (with Chinese stickers and a seat belt pad that OBVIOUSLY makes it faster) cuts me off. I was in no mood so I slow down, he slows down and starts to follow me. I pull into a parking lot, and stop. He gets out yelling, (all 100 lb. soaking wet) I let him get halfway to my truck and I get out.

Would now be a good time to say that I was dressed in FULL BLACKED OUT ENTRY GEAR with a weapon attached to my right thigh, right hip, taser on left, weapon on left ankle, full tactical gear, and a really pissed off attitude. This punk stops dead on his spot and without hesitation says" I'm sorry Sir, I just wanted to apologize"

HA!! Being a good guy rocks!!!!

lol..we had a bunch of situations kinda like that when I was in Ranger Bn..then once I started working for the "alphabet boys" those three big letters on the back of all of our tactical gear usually made people go the other way very quickly...
