I realize that some kids are just born bad, but 9 times out of 10 they are bad because they have dirtbags for parents. I'm guessing these punks crawled out of the shallow end of the gene-pool.

If you kick God out of public schools- then what do you expect to happen? Kids grow up with no morals. We no longer paddle them, parents are too busy yelling, "don't touch my kid or I'll sue you!" Ha! I sure got lit up from time to time... So if there's no "real" consequences for your actions- hey, why not? Time out is not an adequate punishment for pre-teens / teens. In essence we're teaching them that they don't have to be accountable for what they do except to a certain point, then we charge them as an adult and through them in jail. You got kids raping, stabbing & massacring other kids from grade schools to colleges.

I mean this in no mean-spirited way, but when was God ever in public schools to begin with? Morals are not developed in Christianity alone.

I agree with this. The other problem is too many parents are not involved in the lives of their children and they let the television raise their kids instead of doing it themselves.

God is in school? You mean not teaching evolution? Or did you attend Catholic school?

I just had a very good, but probably heated, response to your question. It wasn't aimed at you in the least....just talk about religion in schools, courthouses, etc. and how I'm upset to see something so many of us hold so dear, removed from our everyday lives to please a few.

I really don't think we should go here. That's why I've deleted my post. As far as the religion, let's just call it a day.

I'm not a huge fan of the paddle idea. Never had it, myself. But I'd be appalled to think any of my future kids would be getting it in school. uh-uh. Nope. I'd walk right up the teacher who did it and paddle the hell out of them.

On the other side of the coin - the side that I think balances the above: Parents need to take a more active role in their kids lives. Leaving them in front of the TV as a babysitter, or not reading to them, teaching them morals, etc. THAT's why things like this happen. Schools aren't fit to be the diciplinary role in kids lives, their families are.

Not to start a religious debate. But, which/who's God?
you want Catholic practises, Baptist, Hindu, Islam, what?

Religion does not = morality.

Sitting down with your children letting them know that they are loved and appreciated and what the difference between right and wrong is, builds good morals. Involvement in their lives and listening is what kids need most.

I'm not saying Religion doesn't have a place. But, I take exception to saying it is the panacea for all the woes of the world. What people need is more acceptance and understanding and tolerance for their fellows. All too often I have seen Tolerance and Acceptance preached but then qualified to be "only if you believe and worship as I do". More people have been killed in the name of religion than any war ever fought.
