The no start has been a common issue on the new trucks. Two issues the exhaust flapper valve freezing and the starter. Seems they received a bad batch (large qty) of electronic starters. Check out gm.trucks.com/forums to read up on it

Question is; do I really want this particular truck that has less than 50 miles on it with a 3" scratch down to the bare metal and wouldn't start 2 out of the first 3 times I tried?

Again nothing against the dealer at this point as they still have not replied to my ultimatum (yes or no) on my request for a new truck just not this one.
The answer is no, if you get a choice.

But realistically if they are willing to make it good and fix the starting issue you have no more risk than getting another truck.

Yes, I would like it to be perfect too. But you can look at it this way, it is now "pre disastered" so to speak. You are likely to get a scratch or ding on a pick up if you use it for anything and this repair is on the dealer.

The starting issue should be nothing more than a bad part. Replaced and it's no different than getting a different truck.

If the dealer is offering, take it. If not the trouble to get a new one will be tough. In the lemon laws I'm aware of you aren't even close to qualifying. You need 3 trips to the dealer for the same repair (not 3 incidents of the failure). The dealer gets 3 strikes. There is also a "days out of service" for the same problem. You have to at least let them try to fix it.

So I agree, it sucks, I wouldn't be happy. But let them fix it and in a month you'll be happy in your new truck.

If it re occurs, then another story.

the scratch would be the bigger issue for me they will try to fix it cheap as possible. I'd Be afraid they wont get the same quality of finish and with paint never no if they get the color matched or the clear wrong it could start pealing up in 2-3 years or turn yellowish. Starting problem should be easy to fix.

The way this is going, you might have posted this thread too soon. Sorry to hear of you're troubles. Like some have said, let the dealership work to make things right and try to not let the mob mentality overtake your good judgement.

Generally GM is involved. When I worked for GM I would try to escalate issues to help site members.

Send a PM.

Keep your head up and good luck with the fight.

I know all car makers have problems but my wifes family has been getting Toyota's/Lexus's for last 20 years and have had none and my wife has had 3 with no issues I just got my tundra I am not going to fight it anymore they make a more reliable product. Not always but on avg they are more reliable.
