Mustang has a diff firing order, 4 valves, 4 cams.....if you drop in an x pipe delete the cats, the car sings at high rpm.

mustangs sound good. Until that new 5.0 came out that was the only good thing about them.

The older 5.0L sounded badass as well. 2 valves per cylinder and a pushrod configuration, just like ours. True, different firing order, but it truly was a better exhaust system that rounded it out.

^ This. The Firing order is key to the difference between the two. It sounds different from the LsX series of engines (1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3) due to the Coyote 5.0's different firing order (1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2). Other variables also come into play, such as heads (2 valve vs. 4valve), cam (single vs. quad), exhaust, bore, stroke, compression, etc... just like the others mentioned.

I get that, but even with modding the GT still has a better tone/rumble in most cases.

Right, its the engine, completley different engine. Heads, 32 valves, 4 cams, smaller displacement, etc, etc, etc. So many different things on the engine since its a DOHC engine.

You think bigger displacement gives a better sound, but part of that "hollow" rumble sound from the GT is the smaller displacement. Same reason our exhaust gives off that drone, its just bigger. Think about it in instrument terms, for example the 6.2l cylinder is like a bass drum, and the 5.0l cylinder is like a tom.
It may be deeper but not necessarily a better sound for what you are looking for.

But the exhaust comes out of the heads, which will ultimately shape its sound, they are so much different than ours, its going to sound that much different.

I love the way cobra's sound.

The pre-production 6th Gen sounds pretty good IMO

On the new ones the sound inside is a different story..

See that small tube coming off the intake pipe? That has a resonator ("speaker") in it and it's piped thru the firewall next to the brake pedal.

It creates a low growling engine sound that to the driver, seems to be coming thru the firewall. There's a little piece of foam in the mouth of the pipe that if you take it out, it changes the sound to a more hollow intake sound due to the resonance of the flex tube.

To the OP's question ... As far as the sound inside the car goes the answer is simple.. Ford cheated.

I was never talking about inside the car.

I know, that's why I clarified "INSIDE" the car

My post was to share some related info to others

I cut the dang mufflers off, they were the biggest I've ever seen. Used sawzall. Bolted on a simple axle back. Bam. Good sound. Better than any Mustang I've sat next to at a stoplight. And that's just a cheap solution. You can do a catback, full exhaust, headers, as far as you want to to go, as much as you want to spend and make it sound just how you like it
