I do like the collapsing 3rd row seats on 2015. On the 2014 we had to take them out to have a flat rear cargo space.

Just wait for the price tag.......................wait for it.........................BAM!!!!

Z/28 or an Escalade? I'm guessing the new Escalade will start at $69,995..................or higher.

Aerodynamics are tricky, they aren't something that can be sorted out by looking at a handful of pictures. There are elements that can look sleek, but add drag. There are elements that look drag-inducing, but actually help. Sometimes an element will have barely any effect. And keep in mind that the co-efficient of drag comes from how all those bits and pieces interact with each other. A small increase in local drag, can (sometimes) improve things downstream by an even greater amount. On top of that, there are also styling tricks to make you think something looks one way (big & block, for example) while actually being reasonably aerodynamic.

I get what they were going for with the tail lights, but I don't think it turned out too well, in my opinion.
I like it, but I prefer the exterior of the current Escalade and Tahoe over the 2015s.

I lobe this new Escalade! Very sleek and masculine. And a great looking interior finally!
I love it when a plan comes together!

From the article.

Quote:
New inlaid doors fit into the body side openings instead of over the top of the body, significantly reducing wind noise and contributing to improved aerodynamics that help the vehicles slip through the air on the highway with less wind drag. Active air shutters close in front of the condenser/radiator assembly at certain highway speeds to improve aerodynamics for greater efficiency.
It appears that there is more being done to subtly improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle without changing the overall heritage of the Escalade.

If it's $69k, that won't be bad. The 2014 Escalade starts at $67,935, so a $2,000 increase is reasonable. I read where BMW had a $4,000 increase on the new BMW X5 V8 and a $5,000 increase on the X5 6 cylinder compared to the 2013 model.

I actually like the rear. Especially in that video Fen posted. At least no one will confuse the Escalade with anything else on the road at night!

2015 Cadillac Escalade Revealed in All its Big and Brawny Glory
Quote:
If first impressions count, then Cadillac has won our attention with the all-new generation of its 2015 Escalade full-size SUV that was officially unveiled today during a special event in New York City. It may have impressed us more if a) it had shown the Escalade first instead of last, after the Chevrolet and GMC models or b) if the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL simply did not exist…
We say that because if you place the three models together, their relation is clear, at least on the outside where the differences between them are focused on the individually styled front and rear ends, and the exterior trims and wheels – overall, the Escalade has crispier ends and more upscale detailing.

Inside, however, it's a different story as GM has made great efforts to differentiate the three full-size SUVs with the Escalade garnering most of the attention with bespoke styling and materials, as well as gadgetry and equipment features. To put it bluntly, unlike the Escalade's predecessors that looked more Tahoe and Yukon than Cadillac, the new model's cabin is completely in line with the wreath and crest firm's freshest products, such as the ATS, CTS and XTS.

Cadillac states that its new big SUV features "real wood combined with premium cut-and-sewn materials and sueded accents, along with ambient lighting", while also highlighting the fact that, "tight tolerances of the instrument panel and door panels, precision controls and triple-sealed doors were engineered and designed to reinforce a feeling of quality".

The brand's touch-sensitive CUE system also makes an appearance with an eight-inch display as standard, while instead of traditional instrument gauges, the Escalade now sports a reconfigurable, high-resolution 12.3-inch screen.

On the tech front, you'll find, bluetooth phone and navigation systems, available Blu-Ray DVD rear entertainment system, and a raft of safety features such as the comprehensive Driver Awareness package, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Alert.

GM also highlights the existence of "greater security features to thwart theft attempts" since the Escalade is a popular vehicle amongst thieves… These include an intrusion sensor, inclination sensor and glass breakage sensors, all of which are supported by the brand's OnStar Stolen Vehicle Assistance.

The fourth-generation Escalade rides on a traditional body-on-frame architecture with Cadillac to offer two versions of the SUV, a regular wheelbase (116 inches or 2,946mm) model measuring 203.9 inches or 5,180mm long, and the extended-length ESV edition with a 14-inch-longer (355 mm) wheelbase at 130 inches or 3,302mm and approximately 20 inches (508 mm) more in overall length (224.3 inches or 5,698mm). According to Cadillac, the ESV maximizes space for third-row passengers and also offers 60 percent more cargo space behind the third-row seat than the regular wheelbase Escalade.

Aside from choosing lengths, buyers will also be able to opt for 2WD and 4WD drivetrains, with power in all cases provided by a new 6.2-liter V8 direct-injection engine rated for 420hp and 460 lb-ft of torque (623 Nm), which represents a nearly 5-percent increase in horsepower and 10 percent more torque than the outgoing unit. The eight-cylinder mill is paired to GM's Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission with TapShift control. Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control will be offered as standard on all models.

Further details such as pricing, equipment grades and fuel economy numbers are to be released at a later date, likely before the new 2015 Escalade goes on sale in spring of 2014.

I really like the interior upgrades , am going to hold out full judgement on the exterior until I see it in person but from first looks of the Escalade and the Suburban I am thinking someone in design took the GMC Terrain and stretched it .

First Look: 2015 Cadillac Escalade
It's bigger, it's bolder and it's more beautiful
Quote:
Even the pouring rain and high winds couldn't dampen the spirits of the crowd of dealers, executives, second string celebrities and media on hand to see the debut of the 2015 Cadillac Escalade. Between bottles of Brooklyn Lager and basil encrusted tenderloin nibbles, the Crest & Wreath brand rolled out the Cadillac of SUVs.

Entering its fourth generation, the Escalade will feature GM's new 6.2-liter V-8 that offers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The direct injection engine features GM's active fuel management, which can switch off four cylinders when additional power is not needed.

However, this Escalade promises more than a powerful ride. Cadillac will incorporate a fully boxed frame to stiffen its chassis and add a number of suspension improvements including a Magnetic Ride Control, which can adjust dampening in milliseconds. Instead of using traditional mechanical valve shocks, it uses a fluid that contains iron particles and an electric magnet that can alter viscosity. It allows for nearly instantaneous damping adjustments.

While the Escalade has always had a luxurious ride -- albeit a very truck like one -- Cadillac is touting a number of improvements to smooth this SUV's ride. The track has been widened, a new 9.5-inch rear axle and standard automatic locking rear differential have been added, and the electric power steering has been adjusted to improve handling and fuel economy.

Cadillac has also quieted the Escalade's ride and added additional luxury features inside and out.

"Cadillac's growth provides the ideal stage for the all-new Escalade to take a major leap forward," said Bob Ferguson, Cadillac's senior vice president, in a news release. "The 2015 Escalade is completely new and elevated in design and technology, inside and out. The clear objective is to once again assume the leadership position among luxury SUVs."

Indeed. The exterior is cleaner and less jumbled than the outgoing model and features additional LED lighting cues to dress it up.

Cadillac will also feature its new Total Internal Reflection LED high beams, which use four vertically stacked crystal lenses. The LED low beams also use crystal lenses. Cadillac's crest and wreath logo will even glow in the dark.

The interior includes redesigned seats, a new instrument panel and center console that features Cadillac's CUE telematics system on an 8-inch color screen. The configurable instrument cluster will be displayed on a 12.3-inch high definition screen. The front row will include 1.4 inches more headroom and 4 more inches of legroom. Additionally, the second and third rows will fold flat to allow for better cargo management.

"An exceptional level of craftsmanship has gone into the redesign of the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, and it all centers on the premium materials and extensive use of cut-and-sew live stitching – the way fine furniture is produced," said Eric Clough, director of interior design, in a news release.

Cadillac also hopes to tame road and wind noises by including Bose Active Noise Cancellation technology.

From adaptive cruise control to front and rear braking controls that use the car's onboard radar to prepare to stop even before the driver knows he or she needs to stop, the Escalade will feature the very best Cadillac can offer.

No pricing was announced, but the 2014 Cadillac Escalade currently has a starting price around $68,000. Cadillac executives say production will begin in the spring at its Arlington, Texas, factory. It should be available to the public by the early summer at the latest.
