I've seen this before and I'm the most recent hs graduate in this thread. Just trying to educate you all on what kids today think like.
I agree 30 days community service is getting off lightly, maybe the parents need to be serving that time right along beside them, losing time from work, I bet that kid would get a attitude adjustment.

We as parents never know if we are doing the right thing right now and then. I know when I was being bullied in school, I was grateful to know I was coming home to a loving family who supported me and my decisions everyday. You just need to be there for your granddaughter, let her know she is loved at home and all those kids at school are losers (I am joking about the loser part, well sort of)

They are text messages from one of those anonymous messaging services.

Was just going to say that. The 30 days community service might not do much the first time. But you go spreading crap around school and bullying more because you were given 30 days community service, the next step will be a restraining order or jail time.

I would take parenting advice from Ruby any day.

The thing is she only gave her number out to who was supposed to be her close friends. Now if they gave it out to others or got it some other way it's hard to tell. I told them to block all text messaging from her phone.

This is a serious issue for young people today. They are all so connected online that they can't get away from it.

There is no right this is the way answer. There are different approaches for different situations. We had an incident with one of my daughters while I was out of town. My targeted daughter was so hurt that people she considered friends would do something like this. My wife told her to delete the account, talked about mean girls, coping... While that was going on my other daughter posted this.

I know who you are. I know where you live. Apologize to my sister or I'll kick your asses.

The problem immediately went away. My wife thought we should punish the aggressive daughter. I thought she deserved a medal taking a stand and defending her older sister.

We had another incident with a young lady taking locker room pictures and texting them. I called the young ladies father and politely told him about the problem and that it should be stopped immediately. He didn't see it that way and thought it was harmless. I regressed and explained to him if I found one more texted picture of one of my girls from his daughter, his daughter's friends or by some stranger I would hold him accountable. That worked.

You have to find someone in the situation that is motivated to change the behavior or there is no solution.

OP - Very sorry to hear about the issues she is having to face, I hope she can get through them and come out stronger. As a new father with a little girl, this stuff scares the heck out of me.

Regarding the one who likes to stir the pot here, please just everyone ignore that person, the mods will be banning him soon. If you look at his post history here it is quite clear that he just likes to get people worked up, in 2 out of the 3 threads that he has been involved with it was the same deal. That being said don't even respond to him, that's what he wants.
