Cost too much to build. GM loses money with each one sold.

So? Figure out ways to produce it more efficiently.

There really aren't any. The reason they're such well-built cars is because they're practically assembled by hand. Both the Solstice and Sky were introduced merely to reinvigorate both brands.
The only way the Kappa platform could live on is badged at a higher price point with Cadillac, but it doesn't look like that will happen any time soon.

It is confirmed as of today that it will happen.
![]() Bob Lutz is back, and after what seems like five minutes into his job as GM's new marketing kingpin, he's doing what he does best: making headlines. Rest assured that this is a good thing, as El Generalissimo Roberto Maximo told Automobile Magazine that yes, the Pontiac G8 will live on in the United States as the Chevy Caprice. So much for Fritz "I'm not a fan of rebadging" Henderson's statement to the contrary a couple of weeks ago. "The last time we looked at [the G8], we decided that we would continue to import it as a Chevrolet. It is kind of too good to waste," Lutz told the mag. As for the G8 being "too good to waste": Amen to that, Bob. This also makes us wonder if law enforcement-grade models will be part of the deal with Holden to continue production. Chevy Caprice police cars? That's got a very familiar ring to it. The next question is whether a U.S. Caprice would mimic the Middle East-market Caprice, which is based on the long-wheelbase Holden Caprice/Statesman, or whether it will simply be a Chevy-badged version of the standard-wheelbase Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8/Chevrolet Lumina. Frankly, as long as there's ultimately a Caprice SS that is identical to the Pontiac G8 GXP in every critical way, we don't care. |

I LOVED the look of the Pontiac. That picture just doesn't do it for me... It's not aggressive enough.

If there are any mods around, it'd probably be a good idea to rename the thread, because I'm sure there are going to be like 15 threads about it by tomorrow.

I didn't want to believe this yesterday but wow....the confirming reports are piling up. I don't know what you all are talking about with the looks. The only real difference there is the removal of the cheesy, tacky hood scoops and that's what the G8 needed in the first place. If this really does happen, the combination of Zeta platform & V8 performance and the practicality and extra luxury from the V8 just might be enough to switch me from the Camaro. Maybe, just maybe... Either way, seeing that wonderful car in the more tasteful Chevy styling will be rewarding all by itself. They'd better ruin it with a lame faux hood scoop.

Wow way to read into something that's not even there. No one said because the wonderful G8 will live on the Camaro will become a 4 cyl car. The OP merely said high performance 4 and 6 cylinder engines will be where the emphasis is in the future. That's something we've all known for a very long time. V8s will still be around, but the bulk of performance cars won't have them. That's fine. The OP was very incorrect in stating the Cobalt SS is dead. It is very much alive, and it is one of the fastest FWD cars in the world. Kinda hard to argue with that. So perhaps GM won't build a supercharged Z28, but why should they when an aftermarket company can do the same thing with neither company taking a CAFE hit? It is win-win-win for everyone involved. GM sells a Camaro with fuel economy no worse than an SS, and aftermarket tuner sells its products and services, and the customer gets the supercharged Camaro they wanted. Meanwhile, the Z28 can be repurposed to its original 1st Gen role as a road course star, and GM is still not hit with any worse CAFE ratings. Sounds like a brilliant plan to me.
