why would you replace the DPF? You service the DPF unless you have a catastrophic failure that causes contamination. Service here runs between 140-450 depending upon size and severity of the filter.

I think that's a great idea. Dodge is going to offer a 1/2 ton with a smaller diesel next year so why not compete?

DPF will eventually get coated with metals that won't burn off during regen, also injector failure, VGT failure, EGR cooler failure, or excessive oil burn can lead to either overheat failures or plugging beyond the ability to service.

Yeah, with the cancellation of the 4.5L Duramax I don't see GM following suit. As for Ford they're rolling out their gen2 EcoBoost engines and with the 2.7nano slotting in, power wise, where the current 3.5 is, they'll pit the gen2 3.5 up against these light duty diesels in comparisons.

the DPF in my service truck has over 500,000 on it and I have had it cleaned one time. I have had injector failure twice, where does a DPF get metals from? EGR Cooler failure also does not make it a reason to replace, caking is usually a result of oil or a timing issue (fuel or heat) and then they typically cook them to clean them. If they can't they cut them apart and replace usually the cake that cannot be cleaned.

Nissan's operating strategy has worked quite well for them with a positive net profit margin in 9 out of the last 10 years. Their strategy is to get the consumer in the door with the Titan, 370z, or GT-R and sell them an altima .

Maybe they will take a hint from Audi and a few others and offer a diesel in their full size SUV, Armada/QX
