Wow...they do stuff differently over there.

We do entrance test first. Then basic PT test. Pass both of those and you move on to background. Pass that and you do medical test, psych test, oral board review, lie detector, etc. Pass all those and you are qualified for the academy. Here's where you take the courses and do PT. You must pass both the TCLEOSE test and PT test to go on...shooting, driving, tactics, etc. Pass all that and you get to graduate. It's pretty tough...7 months in the academy. Then, another 3 months rides (training). Then, another 9 months on probation.

Congrads again.

Thanks, bro.

The way you broke it down there is very similar to what happens here. In order to get into the academy I had to pass a PT test, background check, polygraph, and oral board interview (plus all the other 'application' stuff). I was there for 6 months.

Here in Fl. most agencies will accept applications from recruits and start processing you while in the academy (usually at least 1/2 way through).

FTO for agencies around here is anywhere from 8 weeks to 6 months (4 months for me). Then another 8 months of probation.

Now, this how it works for a non-hired recruit. Some agencies around here will obviously sponsor you, so you're hired when you start the academy (considering you complete the course). I'm not exactly sure how things change for them.

Ahh...so it sounds like you go to a standardized academy and get hired out of there. Our academy is specific to the dept. If you want to go into SAPD, you go through their academy.

Different, but makes sense. Here, if you are in the academy, you are basically in. The only way you can mess up is by failing the PT or TCLEOSE exam. That's suprising that you could start in the academy w/out having any particular jurisdiction having hired you. Makes sense, but I've just never heard of that. cool! And congrats again. Now I see how you could go through all that training and not be sure if anyone will hire you. OUCH!

We didn't tase each other at the academy. For me, it'll probably happen next week or the week after when I start orientation, lol.
