Mine wasn't too tough. Froze my butt off in Korea in the early 70's. Spent one week forward observer duty on the DMZ staring at the NORKs through binoculars.

Toughest physically: freezing my ass off on Ft. Hood guarding equipment while all the POGs got taken back in busses because of the weather. We only ever took our outer 2 shells of our sleeping bags so needless to say we froze. Iced over sleeping bags cracking (literally) when we had to go to our shift.
Toughest mentally: Any of the multi day missions on OIF. Nothing worse than a stressful situation and a lack of sleep. US Army Infantry 2001-2004 2-8 Infantry of the 4th ID OIF March 2003 - April 2004 I survived C5F3!!!

While I had some great duties, I was also stuck in the HELLHOLE Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms for four years. That's torture, plain and simple.

Spent a couple of years on Adak, AK. Freezing place called "Birthplace of the winds" for a reason.

Really, Kuwait? Where else have you been? At least Kuwait has civilization.

Can vouch for that. Never been as cold as I was during UFL in Korea.

That scout sniper who spent 4 days crawling 700 yards with enemy walking just feet away from him and he was able to kill some general in Vietnam. Then made it out alive.

Edit: Camaro5 censored the last four letters of his name because it is a four letter word that rhythms with "lock" and is sometimes used in crude reference to the male member.

I had the privilege of commanding a tank company with over 100 soldiers (when you include all attachements: medics, mechanics, infantry, engineers, air defense, etc.) during the initial push into Iraq in 2003 (phase I and II). Thankfully I didn't lose a single soldier - I can't imagine having to bury a comrade. God bless all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, let us not forget.

I was in a training squadron for 5 years and had it pretty easy. The worst part of my entire tour was being at work when the first tower was hit on 9/11 and then having a bomb threat on our base. I remember watching everything on tv. :-( All of those lives lost over stupid terrorists.
