I personally use Gimp 2.0 - works great for me, and was no harder to learn than photoshop.

I tried Gimp and thought it was good. But luckily my OEM laptop came with a "free" version of Photoshop Elements - its pretty darn good for my lame editing skills. (most or all of the pics I ever posted here were edited with PSE - including the ones included in the official "Black" thread. <thanks, Tran!>)
