You expect CCs to screw you over in certain ways, just not in this particular way.

So.

I'm still really pissed off about this. Anybody have any ideas on how I can salvage my earnings? I was a card member for 8 years, saving points. And to date, I haven't redeemed a single point, and now all my points are going to be expired or forfeited.

In my view, all these years I could have been using a cash rewards card, and getting direct cash back on all these purchases. HSBC is REALLY screwing me over.

I emailed them through the website, and they told me my account had been closed due to inactivity (I used it about a month before they closed it!) and that I have 90 days to use my earnings or they'll disappear. That means they expire august 1st. It is highly unlikely I'll be buying a car by then. Has anyone else been ****ed over like this? I've been a cardmember since 2001, and went about 5 years without using it without any problems. I started using it again about a year ago when I decided to maybe buy a camaro. All I can say is, no wonder GM is going bankrupt, with all the crap they put you through when trying to buy a car.
Another MISDIRECTED shot at GM. Don't you know how "THEMED" credit cards work, They have nothing to do with the Host Company except it limits your use of rewards to that company. Has nothing to do with GM and evreything to do with HSBC. Get a clue before making vague misdirected statements. You guys only know how to kick someone when they are down.

Poor Gm

Try Writing the Bank, I would use a written letter, not through the internet. Paper leaves a trail.

I doubt anyone complains about their other rewards cards. But this is just indicative of the image problem GM has. Even when there is no issue with GM, it's GM's fault.

GM allows you to use $1000 GM points for a new 2010 Camaro, that came out about a month ago. I did use the points toward my new Camaro!

The folks at HSBC card were challenged and not to nice-had to stay with it but in the end got my points redeemed through the dealer.

Each month after a certain perion of years, you do lose points for not redeeming them and your statements should have showed them being reduced over time before going to zero. Really crappy policy in my opinion to have points evaporate after we earned them!

best

So my card ended up being reinstated. Not sure why or how. But I figure I'll probably buy the new car by the time they run me through this happy wringer again. Once I buy my camaro, this credit card is BYE BYE. I'd rather get 1.5% of actual cash rewards, vs 5% of maybe someday you can use these rewards if they don't expire first.

Because anything that has the Mark of Excellence on it is absolutely horrible, right?

We should all expect a piece of trim to come loose on our credit cards, or maybe part of it will have mismatched paint, or maybe the ambient lighting won't work.

It's not a GM card. GMAC is not GM.

GMAC broke away from GM and is a seperate bank. With little to no connection to GM.

They are mostly a real estate holding and it seems they could care less about car loans at the moment with the worst rates around.
