were not runing out of gas, but its an agreed fact that we do have 50 years of KNOWN oil left. I dont think theres a reason to be scared of that but I dont see why we shouldnt develop another kind of fuel either, i mean just the fact that it will keep us from relying on the middle east for this stuff. But bigger motors and cars in general polute you cant deny that fact, now the consequences of that I would agree with you are sketchy.

I dont believe that either, key word being KNOWN or more accurately what they want you to KNOW. The green movement is all about money, the sooner you realize that the better off the world will be.

the markets will realize when we have to become more fuel efficient...the government should never force it and we're not running out of gas either thats another myth as well

A very small number of the population desire small (euro style vehicles).

If thats what everyone wanted, mini coopers, chevy aveos, etc... would be everywhere.

Fact is we are not Europe, we like our cars big and powerful. Let us decide whether we want to spend $$$ on gas, not the gov't forcing us into something.

we find new sources of oil every day. We need to increase our gas production capabilities though.

thank you but we have to be careful getting to deep in this subject because the mods would prefer we not get too partisan...they close threads

but yes we prefer bigger cars in america...as soon as gas went down again suv's sales picked up again

I laugh at the dummies who traded their SUVs in at loss to buy a more expensive hybrid (prius), took a loss on that deal, and are now stuck with an ugly slow car that is not saving that much money given gas prices.

there is a lot of opinions but I think we all have to agree is that we have to get some sort of fuel whether thats our current PETRO fuel or something else, that stays around 2 bucks a gallon. You can see when it gets past three it really messes with the economy. On top of that we have to produce engines that get high twenties plus fuel economy. We can do it you think the muscle cars of the past were getting 10-12mpg now we have motors just as powerful if not more and are getting 10 more.

i think your right, which I think its a good idea that somebody is finally forcing the car companies and fuel companies to work together to make the most efficient vehicle out there, BUT i would not want to lost performance either.

BUMP,
but with a fleet average of 35 means your not going to see anything under 20 so even the trucks would be getting good gas.
