I just did mine in March and online through AOPA Air Safety. I might try one of those weekend recert classes, but I hate having to donate a whole weekend. So instead I just hack away a couple hours a day for a week to knock it out. The only annoying thing is you have to take tests. Although they're not too difficult.

Too bad about your friend. My wife loves to fly places. Some pilots don't find wives who care and suffer like he did. He should have sold you half a share to cut the costs!

He tried to sell me half, but I just didn't want to deal with his idea of maintenance. Real cut rate. Too cut rate for safety. I tried the on-line renewal. Got frustrated with the "Systems" approach, and while the weekend thing is a pain, it is less a pain than the on-line and multiple exams on what I see as nonsense info. Guess I have been doing it too long (38 years) to have much patience with the "new" style they keep pushing.

mark-up is not the salesmens idea.

with that said, an absurd mark up just elicits a response. Theyre no big deal, just say what youre willing to pay and the dealer could either accept your offer or you can go somewhere else. not sure why some of you guys take it so personal.

A profit is fine. When they give an additional mark-up that is an insult, that is something else. Plus, in my instance, a salesman who asks a question any 11th grade marketing student knows not to ask...Well, just plain dumb. But then, I did just walk away. They might have made a sale to me..now they won't, and they will never know it. The utter lack of customers in the lot might be a give-away to them, but then...they probably blame it on something else.

So what is really the point of your whining? The salesman who wanted to help you or that the dealer had installed items an overcharging for them or the mark up on some cars? Once again, even if all 3, every dealer does it. I would hope every dealer has trained their sales folks to say "how may I help you?" not every marketing tactic applies to all sales profession. I was at a Chevy dealer this morning drooling over the same Z06 carbon edition that has been sitting there or months...guess said, two salesmen came up and asked "good morning, can I help you?". Nearly 50 cars I bought in 23 years, every single one of them likely started with how can I help you?

No, MOST do, not all.

There is no whining. As a marketing teacher, I know there are things you do, and don't do. Basic to every marketing text and philosophy. The point was: ultra greedy and stupid dealership, and un-trained salesmen. Whining? No...laughing at their stupidity and loss of business...yes. You seem obsessed with defending the gouging practice. Are you a car salesman?

I think you messed up dude ...

The "Performance Package" (PP) is a legitimate Ford option. It includes a strut tower brace, reworked suspension, 19" wheels, Summer tires, 3.31 axle, etc.

Price: $1,995

Not from this dealer...The package was a wax job and door edge guards...On every Mustang they had. Spelled out the details on the dealer add on sticker, next to the factory one. shifty, aren't they?

Honestly, the dealership I got my car at, they knew I was there but didn't approach me, I kind of liked that. The salesman acknowledged he saw me looking but wanted to give me a chance to look on my own. I hate it when you walk onto a lot and get attacked by 3 different sales people all trying to be your best friend. Not everything is about pressuring a customer to buy. Go to dealerships you agree with and don't go to ones you disagree with. Pretty simple.

Also, you have to be the first person I have ever seen who hates when someone asks politely if they can assist you. That is bizarre.
