why not? it shows that you are willing to put forth the time, money and effort required to get a license. driving is a privilege, not a right. maybe they need to come out with some kind of fingerprint technology for keys that whoever is driving, the car automatically restricts its own power levels based on the drivers abilities. lol

how many 18 year old kids have $1800 just sitting around? Most fit into 3 catagories, either they are saving money for shool, have no money, or have mommy and daddy pay for it all. I'm all for restricting access to licences and such, but not economically. make the tasks required to get a licence more difficult. The tests we have are so easy that most people would have to try to fail. The written beginers test should be replaced by short answer or even a verbal test, with no multiple choice. and you have to get 90% of them right. There should also be a test required for high performance vehicles. Basically test them on things that are taught at advanced driving schools.

Of course, none of this stuff will ever happen, but I would like to see it

My drivers ed cost about the equivelant 500 USD at least. And there's a written test where you have to score at least 70% to pass and there's a drivers test. Written test I passed easily, but had to retake the drivers test. Oh and you have to be 18 to get a driver's license. So yeah, you earn it here alright.

With no license/car to get to a job, how would you propose said 18yo get that $1800? Not everyone has parents with money to burn.

That said, in NJ you don't get you're full driving priviliges until you are 18. Before then there are (supposed to be) restrictions. Such as no night driving, no driving with friends, only driving with an experienced (2+years) driver in the car.

I don't know all the rules since it's a fairly new thing (last few years) and when I got my license you did get all your full license at 17.

That actually sounds like NJ.

Though you have to get an 80% to pass the written test. Drivers Ed is optional though. I had it a couple months before taking my driving test though.

In Texas you have to have Drivers Ed to get a license for the ages of 16 and 17. When you turn 18 you can just take the test. You can also get a hardship license when you are 15 if you have a parent that cannot drive but then must have someone 18 or older in the car with you. Also, if you drop out of high school you have to wait till your 18.

You know...the Super Cars (i.e. Veyron) have begun to grow on me.
I'd rather have a Camaro or a Corvette, but I still like them A LOT.

With the Veyron...it must be that 1001 hp and 254mph thing...:p

btw, Great pic TAG...though I'm loath to admit it, I drooled a little.
