This is reality. GM and Chrysler have had lower market shares for a long time. There is just not enough business to support that type of a dealer infrastructure. Free enterprise self adjusts. Also depends on how far the Feds screw around with it.

being from canada i'm not sure how your dealers run down in the states, hopefully someone can fill me in.
Are dealers primarily multiple brand carriers? i.e. GMC/Chevy/Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac, or are some dealers only one brand, like a Pure cadillac dealer, or a pure Chevrolet dealer?

Ours in Clarksville, TN is a Chevy/Cady dealer.

The one in Hopkinsville, KY is a Chevy/Pontiac/GMC dealer.

Its all up to the dealer honestly.

It's sad, but it's a necessary step to take. GM and Chrysler are no longer large enough to support the number of dealers in existence.

The system was fine when there were about a dozen brands from 3 automakers making up 90% of the US market. Now those same 3 have about half the market share they once did. Somethings gotta give. I just hope that its not the little guys that get the cut, and its mainly the ones where the owner has 10 dealerships and/or there are several from the same brand within a few minutes of each other.
