Should of asked to see the radar gun.... Almost full proof. You could either have an officer show you it and it say you were speeding (then its on you) or, depending upon state law you could have the ticket dropped in court for the officer not locking in the speed / if it's not law to lock it in then go to court it most likely have it dropped 5+ mph or a non moving violation.
Also depending on where it is, the officer will have to show up to court. There is a large chance he will not. (but typically they get paid time and a half so I would show up!) Good luck though |

I live by a little town and when you are driving into town on the main road it goes from 55 to 45 to 35 to 25 in less than a mile. Their sheriff just hangs around and harvests tickets all day long if you are going even 1 mph over any of their 3 speed limits.

We did the same thing and were left alone. The second an out of state plate was seen in the south, especially one from NY, they had no chance. |

Can't really argue too much with 11 over. Sure he was dry about it, but what can ya do? Pay it on time so it doesn't compound, and move on. :/

You have Options - the ticket won't go on your record - Read this
Quote:
If you got the ticket in Texas, and its only 11 miles over the speed limit, you are probably qualified to take defensive driving. Just go to the court listed on your ticket. Tell them you want to do the defensive driving deal. You likely will only have to pay 100.00. They will give you some forms. you take defensive driving online. The defensive driving course sends you a receipt in the mail. You return to the court after 90 days, with this proof you took the class, and you give them a copy of your driving record. After that, the ticket will not end up on your record. Option 2: Go to court. Ask if you can do "Deferred Adjudication"...You pay a fine but as long as you don't get the same ticket within 90 days...you won't have any tickets on your record. If you are in Texas, you have options. Also you should calm down. If you drive in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT in TINY little towns, you should go 45mph just to avoid any problems. DONT ASSUME anything. Most small cities have a 45mph speed limit especially if you are driving down roads where there are entrances into neighborhoods. |

You accelerated before the speed limit changed. You were speeding! No the cop gave you a ticket because you were speeding and he was doing his damn job. Cops don't have to let you off with a warning all the time. Sounds to me like you had a ****y attitude Come on! |

I think it's very bad practice to sit in an area where the speed changes from say 45 to 55 and write tickets for people speeding up too soon. If you can see the sign then the limit has changed. To ticket under those circumstances is dishonest and I've never seen a police actually doing it. That said, 11 over is a ticket everytime, that's just the way it is. From my own experience police are the biggest assholes until you need one. I'm not just saying this in terms of saving lives. If you have a problem at your job and need people under control the police are invaluable to the situation. I've had sheriffs on the beach give me a card and tell me if I was ever in trouble in there city to give them a call. I have way more positive experience with cops then negative.

That's sucks, OP. sorry to hear you had to deal with one of THOSE cops. I dread the day I get pulled over, since I too have never been pulled over by any police. So far the only time i've had to deal with the police was when I hit a deer in my previous car. But even that cop was asking me questions like he thought I was trying to commit insurance fraud. I'm sure he was just asking the regular questions they always ask, but he sure had an additude about it, he even asked me why I hit the deer, as if I tried to do it. I guess there's something suspicious about a 16 year old hitting a deer on a highway at night when coming home from track practice.
I know all cops aren't this way, I think you and I just had to deal with two that were having a bad day or the kind who give cops a bad name. |
