If possible, then I always suggest you rent the car for a couple of days and take it on a road trip before making up your mind. You get to know the car much better than a dealership test drive which is too brief under very narrow conditions.

I took my rental to the grand canyon and back.

I got a 2012 SS about a month ago. I'm now saving money to get an evo X MR. I like the Camaro, but the Evo is better at more things.
Just curious. What is the evo better at in your opinion?

well hauling kids, getting groceries, hauling poor friends that don't have cars, handling (which can only really be used on a track or auto-x).

it take less oil to do an oil change.... ummmm ... that's about it.

Awesome sequential gearbox in the MR, handling is more direct, and quicker (13.3:1 steering vs 16.1:1), S-AWC system is fun (I just turn Stabilitrac off because it sucks), it's FUN with snow tires not just adequate, and if you've never felt active yaw control you need to. To get the power/weight ratio to SS Camaro levels is easy, but a Camaro needs a lot of work to handle similarly, but it will never be as good (AWD + S-AYC + ACD + S-ABS + front LSD = hand of god)
I thought I wanted a more plush ride and more tractable power around town, and although nice, there just really is no comparison. And no it's not ONLY on the track. Just tonight I was getting frustrated with how slow the steering is, and how much hand-over-hand I do with it.

Basically the Evo is a jack of all trades, and the Camaro is a fair-weather one-trick pony.

Only problem with the Evo is it's ugly and expensive to maintain. But if you want a car that is good at aggressive street driving, even in the rain and ultra-tight twisties, loose gravel, auto-x, track days, the drags, the snow, and even dirt if you want, with 4 doors, the Evo can't be beat.

So basically it's all about handling?

I have an import now with that stiff ride you are talking about. I am done with it. I am tired of being jarred around the streets of chicago potholes day after day. And any longer road trips I can forget as it's so uncomfortable. I was able to take the camaro to the grand canyon and back in complete comfort.

I think you have to decide what you like personally. I am not really a fan of power deliver in inline 4's. I don't like to have to rev engines high. I think you have to just decide on which you prefer.

Well the evo x has earlier power delivery than you would expect, and the LS3 has a "dead spot" up to 3k, but the ls3 has torque right NOW in any gear. I was in the same boat as you, plus the Camaro is dead sexy. Now I regret it lol. The Camaro is awesome, but the evo has that x factor (excuse the pun). The Camaro is the better daily driver in fair weather. I would test drive both though.

I went from torque-free Honda Civic Si's to an SS Camaro. Best move I have ever made.

LoL. Dead spot is funny. There is no dead spot, but if you compare it to a car with a turbo, then yes it might feel like a dead spot. Turbos/superchargers are different beasts. I like turbos/superchargers but there are downsides. NA compared to boosted is different.

Either is fine. What I like is the camaro. That's me though. I was never a big fan of any import I owned. Again, those are just my personal preferences.

What I see with the EVO is smaller motor, less hp, same or slightly worse fuel economy. More maintenance.

A little less weight too, but it's using aluminum in some places. Not a lightweight by any means though.

As for more room. You got it there. Although the evo's rear leg room isn't really spectacular either, but better than the camaro's. I have rarely used the back seats or trunks in my cars so although it would be nice to have more room it's not really necessary.

You can't really go wrong with either. I'm definitely enjoying it, and I still walk backward after I park to stare at it. It does what I want 90% of the time. It's not a Cadillac, but it absorbs speed humps like a steam roller. Don't know about potholes. I don't know where there are any, and I would avoid them if I.saw one.

I just thought I had outgrown the need for that extra 10%, but I didn't. That's just me. And I've been called weird AND picky, so...

Oh yeah, you can debate Evo vs. Camaro, but Civic vs. Camaro? Reminds me of that song Jesus built my hot rod. LS3 probably has more torque at idle than the civic at 7k lol. I owned a civic once for about 6 months to build my credit back in '02. Think about being able to accelerate from 0-110 in 3rd gear. It's literally like having 3 Honda engines.
