Don't forget, too, that there's just more metal in the Camaro. In addition to being a bit larger overall, it's a stronger/stiffer structure due to a very solid construction... |

Great point as well Dragoneye. I'm sure all those things add up. Like i said above, they are very similar in size and the majority of the weight difference is the IRS.
There was a picture somewhere on this site with just the frame, engine, suspension, and rear end, that really show's just how big the IRS is in comparison to the engine. Searched forever with no luck... Anyone know the picture im talking about? |

As for the gauge cluster, they may seem outa place but I believe you can get all the same readings from the HUD ( for more spirited driving ). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Quote:

The HUD definately seems like a cool feature, but still doesn't take away the look of the gauge cluster i was talking about. |

Well think of it like this, it's kind of nestled under the dash and right at the the head of the shifter, it's kinda like a extension of the dash or control panel on a rocket ship. When your bangin 6 it makes you part of the beast that your in total control of ( or we would like to hope so ). or just forget its there and drive like hell, you won't have time to look at it anyway..... |

Is the given weight of the GT500 after the performance package and track pack. I would have to imagine those options would add weight?

I definitely wouldn't call the Mustangs rear end weak. In fact there are way fewer potential failure points on a solid rear end than the IRS. Im not slamming either I'm simply saying they each have their benefits and drawbacks in different scenarios. Just don't let the simple look of the solid rear influence your judgement of strength.

To SIRLION great post! It's healthy to see the world with
the blinders off, you see more of it. This is true wether it be cars or any thing else in life. I have never owned a Camaro before, in fact my Dad purchased a 67 blue/black top mustang new at the dealer. Since then I have owned two GT's and my brother is currently driving a 2005 GT. BTW he can't wait to take a spin in my ZL1 when I get it. When I saw the the first 5th gen on the road when they first came out, I was like what a beautiful car. So I told myself one day I will own this car for myself. I was really waiting for the Z28 to come out, and when the spy shots came out about this new car I joined the forums. But because the name was not known yet but the letter Z was mostly going to be in it, I called myself Z4me. One thing I have noticed from reading many of the posts over the past couple of years. It seems that the Ford Mustang owners due tend to have thief blinders on more then let's say the Dodge or Chevy owners. Not all of course there are a number who post here and are very open minded about these cars. In fact some own both cars and are proud of it. For me personally I love the design of the 5th gens, yeah the interior could be better, but so could the mustangs compared to the European cars. But some mods can be done here and there, and that will be part of the fun for me as well. I'm just thankfull for the choice of options that we have. It's a great time indeed to be a car enthusiast, welcome aboard and perhaps will see you driving a ZL1 in the future.

While I'm a "dyed in the wool" Camaro/Chevrolet fan, I can appreciate a nice car, whether it's the ZL1, GT500, Challenger, etc..
I like the competition and rivalry between the brands, and you could argue that without each other, none of them might not exist. I have respect for all brands, as well as the enthusiast who can respect each brand and the loyalist of each brand. |
